Yes, the Ever-lasting contrast. Since existence has known, the 'fight' between good & evil has continued. Obviously, this fight can never end. Good things turn bad, bad things become good. My fav. contrasting symbol, because it is so true & means so much – the battle between good & bad never ends… Here we ponder on the tragedy of Dylan Klebold.
I noticed how intensely Dylan was conversing with Mrs C. He was super focused and engaged with her as if what they were discussing was of crucial importance. And Zack was like his anchor to break a smile and relax momentarily. However, his body language, with awkwardly folded arms, was all kinds of uncomfortable as he stands there enduring a social situation and trying to co-exist in a sea of people (all much shorter than himself) and not being able to meld. The sense is that he related to most of the crew around him as distant school work acquaintances. And Dylan seems to seek out Zack whenever possible and follows him around like his security blanket much of the time. We don’t really see him engaging with the other students – at least not in the 4:25 of the vid. He doesn’t even chat with John Savage or Devon Adams (standing right near him and looking very diminutive in his tall, gangly (and emaciated) presence.
Dylan is very careful with the handling of his coat. When he takes it off, he doesn’t bunch it up in his arms as most people would tend to do but rather, holds the coat out dangling before him while he is crouched near the edge of the stage discussing play technical details with Mrs. C and Zack. He may have learned to take extra care with the handling of his coat due to the fabric being “oil skin” which I’m guessing might get permanent crinkles if scrunched up in his arms. Oh, and, you gotta love the way Dylan just jumps off the stage as if it’s nothing. I’ve been in that theater…that ledge is not exactly a hop, skip, and a jump.. except for Mr. Long Legs. 🙂
Near the end, to my painful observations, Zack appears to be almost blatantly? ignoring Dylan who had just jumped off the stage in concern as to what Zack was complaining about (staring at the ceiling with an exasperated “Well, that’s just GREAT.”. Dylan says “what’s wrong?” as he jumps down and then seems awkward and rather lost that Zack brushes past him without a word. I have a theory on this snapshot of their relationship in this tiny end segment which is kind of disheartening.. Notice the rhythmic, odd hand/finger gesturing he is doing. Sue mentioned in her book that Dylan would often click his hands while anxious or in thought. It’s almost like he is self soothing. Lastly, Dylan looks like such a baby in this last image. He morphs fluidly between man-child at age 17.

Indeed, I agree with your observations and they sadden me too. I’m starting to wonder if his painful writings (of Zack abandoning him) were an actual reality. I always considered that Dylan perceived the actions of people against him in an exaggerated manner, but now I’m starting to to doubt that. I know the stinging feeling of being ignored, and I know most of you also felt the same.
Well, we really can’t be sure what is going on in that moment but I certainly read the undercurrent of it. Of course, we could be misinterpreting as the video is edited very choppily. Perhaps it was just an awkward moment where Zack was distracted and brushed Dylan off inadvertently. It’s hard to say. However, I do know that Zack talked smack about Dylan behind his back and so you have to wonder if their relationship was tenuous at this point in time. If this is a tiny glimpse of how they related one-on-one at times with Zack being aloof. See here: https://everlastingcontrast.home.blog/2018/02/18/yoshi-carroll-in-dylans-shadow-while-videoing/
What do mean by “morphs like a man-child” Miss E-C? Great observations by the way. I know that he and Devon are close friends so I don’t think there was an ill-will between them. Maybe they just did not have a conversation in this clip. But for not talking to the other peers, yeah I can relate to that, haha I am an introvert and I only talk to people who are my friends, not so good to strangers or people I just met.
I meant that he was not quite a man yet not quite a boy. He was in between at his age like a man-child. He was tall and could look intimating. In the Frankenstein Roast video he looks large with long legs and big hands. So, at times he looked like a grown up man but then at times he morphs into a fragile, gangly, too-thin boy. He looks very young at the very end of the theater class video. When Zack walks away and he looks directly at the camera. You realize that he was just a child when he made war on his school so violently and took his own life.
Yeah, I’m sure we just didn’t see his interactions with Devon in this 4 minute clip. We can’t see everything compressed in that amount of time! And I relate as well as a tall, shy, introvert. Everything we see Dylan doing here painfully awkwardly resonates so deeply. It’s hard to keep the empathy in check. haha. Thanks for Q. I hope I clarified well enough for you what I meant. 🙂
Yes!!
I am following Bill Ockham on YouTube, he had the lost videos and will post every week. Can’t wait to read more of your observations,
He said he will post another video on Monday at noon Eastern
Why took years to release those videos???

Your observations are very on point and cohesive. I think it’s commendable that he’s there in the first place even though uncomfortable and isolated, when I went to high school I’d dip the second classes ended, too anxious for more lmao. Do you think it was his intense desire to find love and/or connections that he put himself through social interactions like these? It helps that he lived in the same area for all his life so at least he had a long time and stability to make friends but still
Hm, I just think he braced himself and tolerated the social interactions as any introverted, shy, geeky type is wont to do. The fact that he had friends in the theater class (as well as the video editing class) made things more fun, free, and easy. Friends were like his anchor, his security blanket for him to dip his toe in and interact with others in the theater crew. At the same time, he could do tech related stuff and was in his element planning for play logistics and the technical challenges surrounding them. So, he could be around people in a social setting but not quite have to “socialize”. He was a part of the crew but not really. Still on the outside looking in even while standing in a room full of people with his arms awkwardly folded. As he we saw in the video, he was focusing on his duties, coordinating with Mrs. C and getting in a few laughs with Zack. He seemed to concentrate on his conversation with Mrs. C. Personally, I feel like this was a way to distract himself from anxiety. He looked busy and engaged. If you took away Zack, Devon, Brooks from the class it might have been much more stressfully challenging for him. But I do know he joined the class because of the fact that his friends were in it. However, I do not think it had anything to with intense desires to find love. Though I do feel as though he wished he could be like everyone else there – to just be able to jump into conversation and socialize carefree – like the rest of them. But he knew that his shyness was a “big problem”. I think drinking and smoking weed helped loosen up his inhibitions so he could relax and join in a bit more during weekend social activities that involved friends’ friends.
I did tech in high school for a few reasons, but the biggest one was bc of how well it was pitched as being a safe space- techies can sometimes flaunt the same sort of camaraderie as jocks. He might’ve been drawn in by the idea of safety in numbers- especially in a school that puts so much emphasis on being “part of the team”
Always interested in your observations Miss E-C!
Also, in that last shot I noticed that there appears to be a chain dangling from his fingers. It is very faint, but the light catches it a couple of times. We know from his senior pics that he wore one on his right side. I wonder if he would detach it from his watch often to fiddle with it…
I kinda wanted to know what Dylan and Zach were talking to Mrs C, I know it must be something about the light and sound stuff but I’m still curious, maybe if it wasn’t for the annoying guy playing that damn piano we could at least hear more of what they were saying lol
Same here especially when Zack and Mrs. C are signaling to Dylan at the far end of the stage. I’d love to just hear all three of them conversing about the technical logistics. At one point, Dylan is really having a one-on-one with Mrs. C on the stage and Dylan’s mouth is moving kind of funny. It looks like he’s chewing gum or something. The piano playing at certain points was interesting. When Dylan took of his trench and held it out the piano “player” suddenly switched to this ominous minor key. Yikes. Such forboding!

Hmm.. I didn’t see anything like the glint of his pocket watch chain in his fiddling hands – but I will zoom in closer upon next time I have a look.

Yes, he’s playing with a chain dangling from his pocket (not clicking his fingers Miss E-C).
