Did Brooks Brown get bullied?

He got harassed and bullied by the jocks though I don’t think all that severely. Though according to him, he may personally recall it as harsh treatment since he was the one experiencing it. My feeling is that Brooks was that talker, the intellectual, arrogant, smart ass that could use his wits to hold his own so he wasn’t victimized as much as the relentless treatment others received. I would highly suggest reading his book ‘No Easy Answers’ as he goes into detail about the bullying that went on at Columbine.

“the correct fashion, if you will.”

Like, what teenage boy says that ever?!    lol   💓

That is Dylan for you and his sophisticated manner of speaking.  As Devon mentioned he was anything but monosyllable like most dudes his age.

Was Dylan a naturally “private” person? Did he get easily pissed off at nosy people? I would guess so due to shyness

He was a private, shy kind of guy so he may have gotten a bit annoyed and/or embarrassed if someone pressed him about something he considered personal. He could be evasive and reticent when he didn’t want to answer something. He kept it a secret that he got arrested and was undergoing the diversion program. If friends asked, he’d get all red and say “I don’t want to talk about it.” His close friend, Nate found out about it 2nd or 3rd hand. Also, one time he didn’t show up for participation in theater class because he had to attend a diversion session. When he returned to class the next time, the teacher ‘Mrs C" (for Caruthers) asked him about it and he was evasive about it probably out of being mortified having to explain it. I seem to recall the teacher found out that he’d gotten into some trouble from Zack. So basically if you wanted to know something he did not want to talk about, well, good luck with that because it’s none of your damn business. 😏

Did Dylan or Eric ever participate in those sword fighting duels? Lmao the image I got of lanky Dylan is hysterical 😂😂

I think it was mostly the original, official TCM members from ‘97-98 that did the sword play stuff. Keep in mind that Dylan and Eric were never considered part of the TCM. They were just sort of tagalong posers to the group you could say. I mean, I suppose it’s possible they were over a TCM friends house and may have had a battle or two. I tend to see Dylan being more open to this silly frivolity than Eric. But who knows, that’s just a speculation. The boys generally preferred video games or playing combat paint ball guns out in fields with Chris Morris and the like rather than sword dueling.

do you think E&D were the type of people to think that they were the only ones with problems? x

I don’t really think they thought about it. They recognized that they had problems and others appeared to not be cursed as badly as themselves and that was the extent of it. They were coming from their own mono-focused, vantage point which is a phase that is typical of what many teenagers tend to do. But on top of the normal range stuff, they were suffering with negative emotions that were building up and not being expressed and dealt with in healthy, positive way. Their own inner worlds became narcissistically distorted and over time, they became increasingly more apathetic about anything or anyone else. In the last days, it was their desperate self/destructive desires/needs at the expense of everyone else.

So did the TCM beat up kids too? Or were they usually the ones getting beat up?

No, the TCM weren’t gang-like brutes and they didn’t physically beat up kids or jocks.  They were essentially scrawny computer nerds with skinny, under developed arms and physiques. They wore black trench coats to make themselves look bigger and tougher than they clearly weren’t. The TCM liked to play card games such as Magic, or D & D or various computer games. They also liked to have sword fighting duels at one another’s homes. Occasionally a few of the hot head TCM (like Chris Morris or Brian Sargent) confronted jocks-bullies with the threat of their concealed pocket knife. The jocks would threaten to kick their ass but most of the time they called the TCM names, threw bottles at them as they drove by in ttheir cars or chucked food and Skittles at the TCM in the cafeteria.  The TCM  generally fought back with their wit and using psychological mind games try to freak out and repulse the jocks – like groping each other in the hall or saying “I love Satan”.   There were confrontations but I don’t think any of the TCM members were beaten up – more like roughed up and thrown against a locker now and again.   The teachers apparently witnessed these confrontations going on but never really did anything about it.  Some of the staff favored the jocks.
