Eric had his hair cut military buzz cut style. It was electric razor cropped super short like how it is in the ‘Eric inside Columbine’ vid. The idea of a hairstyle like this is that there is no need to do anything with it at all. It’s streamline functional and in his case, battle ready. His super short hair was also his statement in school without going too extreme like angry skinheads do shaving their heads. Though, I don’t think he’d ever have risked shaving it bald because he was ultimately too conservative for something that edgy. Besides of which, I doubt his dad would approve of it but dad was fine with a military buzz cut. At any rate on the morning of 4/20, there was not enough hair to comb and no need to put product in it because there wasn’t enough hair to style. It was a military do along with his combat uniform and gear.
Dylan’s description of the man in black sounds similar to the description of the man in black in the movie Desperado. Do you think he was inspired by that film?
I’m sure Desperado was at least a partial influence for his fantasy paper in which he sees himself as this lethal mystery man garbed all in black. So, I’d say he at least nods to this movie as it has it’s own “man in black”. Plus, Dylan chose to purchase a ‘DB’ double barrel shotgun and hinted to Zack who was curious as to what he had recently secretly purchased: “it’s something out of Desperado”. Though Dylan certainly didn’t copy the exact Desperado look as his Man had a black overcoat (basically you could say he added a sort of trench) and a wide-brimmed hat, which makes him a little dash of Zorro-esque. So, he added his own embellishments for his ultimate sleek killer. Unfortunately for us, his paper doesn’t describe a pony tail like Banderas was sporting for part of the film, and Dylan himself did not wear sport a pony tail for NBK.
“The town, even at 1:00 AM, was still bustling with activity as the man dressed in black walked
down the empty streets…. What was most recognized about the man was the sound of his
footsteps. Behind the conversations & noises of the town, not a sound was to be heard from
him, except the dark, monotonous footsteps, combined with the jingling of his belt chains
striking not only the two visible guns in their holsters, but the large bowie knife, slung in
anticipation of use.. “

However, even though Dylan dug the double barrel and very likely wanted it after seeing Desperado, his Man did not sport one in his paper. Instead, he describes him with automatic hand guns. Possibly he was thinking of Calico pistols – something that he and Eric were considering there for a while for NBK but likely discovered quickly they were far beyond their budget. There was a large variety of other automatic type weapons and spring-loaded pistols used in the film. Perhaps Dylan didn’t want to be too blatantly obvious hinting of his beloved DB in his quasi-fictional foreshadowing story.
“The guns slung on his belt & belly appeared to be automatic hand guns, which were draped
above rows of magazines & clips. He smoked a thin cigar, and a sweet clovesque scent eminated
from his aura. He stood about six feet and four inches and was strongly built. His face
was entirely in shadow, yet even though I was unable to see his expressions, I could feel his
anger, cutting thru the air like a razor.
“

The other thing that Dylan’s man does after he tires of his guns is pull out a large blade knife and begins killing his victims in a very bloody manner. I would think this would support the case that Dylan was likely the one that verbally expressed a desire that maybe they should use their knives in the library…….
Do you think Dylan wouldve bought the red leather jacket he talked about?
Damn. I’d like to think so. lmao And I would so love to know what the inspiration for that was.. Unless it was a deadpan joke of his to get a reaction out of others at the smokers pit. Somehow, I can’t stop picturing this as something Michael Jackson might’ve owned. If only he’d stuck around another year.. of course, that would mean Columbine wouldn’t have happened and we’d still never know if he bought the garish thing. In any case, he definitely wouldn’t want to wear that while trying to eat at McDonalds around a group of nearby kids. What an attention grabber of an aesthetic for the closet ambivert that was DBK Such the colorful but quiet peacock. lol
do you think eric and dylan regret what they did?
No, I don’t – at least, not the way you might be thinking.. The regret, especially for Eric, was that NBK didn’t unfold exactly as they had intended it to. In Dylan’s mind, it was enough.. they had made a blazing trails mark on the school and he was ready to be free from this shitty existence and in happiness.
do you know if dylan and eric stopped having lunch in the cafeteria to avoid the jocks, or did they still eat their lunch there sometimes?
Absolutely a contributing factor. I see it as them eating with everyone in the cafeteria in the early years. They definitely ate in the cafeteria in Freshman but things started to change part way through Sophomore year. As they began to feel more like outcasts as part of the toxic school culture and having been picked on by the jocks, as they began to think independently from their peers, as they began to dress differently and start to associate more with the TCM, they tapered off from eating lunch in the area designated for the herds. They might occasionally eat there but more often than not, they disliked the loaded anything-can-happen atmosphere so chose not to. Better to grab a quick bite and a soda pop and take it outside especially once they had their cars. Best idea was to leave that hellhole and eat free lunch at Blackjack. I talk about this more in relation to Dylan in this post here.
do u know what the name of the font eric and dylan used on their ns/wrath shirts is?
If only I had a dollar for every time this question gets asked 😂 Please use the E-C search and type in ‘font’.
Do you think Dylan would have liked the song Pumped up kicks and Foster the people in general as a band?
Y’all might laugh but I feel like Dyl would’ve liked Pumped Up Kicks. I can just seem him snapping his fingers and whistling to it that lil’ damnable infectious tune and liking a lotlotlot what the song was saying, so yeeeah.. hahaha! That’s not to say he’d be into the group though. It’s just that song he’d be diggin’ on.
How were you able to film inside Columbine? What conference offered that?
It was a school safety and crisis response & prevention conference for those in the educational field as well as law enforcement, SROs, etc.
Hey, your eye colour and my eye colour sound the same! :D
Too bad I don’t know who ‘you’ are. 😏 haha
Hi Miss EC! Another blog found something interesting. We all know Dylan’s hair to be blonde but in one post you wrote that he grew out his brown hair? I’m not sure if you quoted it from somewhere but did his hair just get darker when he got older because in the senior solo picture he looked like he had blonde hair. For some reason when I check EC search it shows nothing especially if you did answer it. I might have to update but sorry if you answered it already.
Hi you 🙂 Hmm..I’m not sure of the post where I supposedly said ‘he grew out brown hair’. That said, Dylan had dark blonde hair. It was the kind of light brown/dark blonde twilight kind of color that could look darker in the wintertime when he was getting less sun on his hair which would sun kiss it and lighten it up. You could swear his hair looked spot-on brown in dimmer lighting such as the photo of him with his hand propped on his chin at his mother’s restaurant birthday party. Even in the occasional childhood photo, his hair looked brown, but in many others, his hair was clearly dark blonde. In the animated footage of him bounding down steps, his hair is definitely dark blonde with a little bit of bronzy red highlights to it. The light facial hair of the half-assed mustache and goatee he was working on growing out near the end of his life was light blonde. So much so that you could hardly catch a glimpse of it in videos and photos. Plus, his mom called her son’s hair blonde in her book. If anyone should know, she would since she’s an artist and knows the visual look of colors quite well.
Okay, the question was asked specifically about this post and the quote was taken from this Source. The author of this very decent article got Dylan’s hair color incorrect.
What a treasure you are, Miss Everlasting. If only we had more people on this planet like you.
I treasure your kind words, thank you. 💖 Though, it’s probably just as well that there aren’t more like me on this planet. 😚
Hi! :) Just out of curiosity. What color are your eyes?
Hiya 🙂 Inquiring minds need to know, aye? They’re blue-gray with little flecks of green in the center. 🙂
hello Miss E-C! How’s your day been? I hope it was good! I have two questions: how old were Eric and Dylan’s siblings? and did they know each other?
Hiya.. Pretty okay if not chill. . Thanksss. Hope yours has been a good one. 🙂
Both Dylan and Eric share an interesting commonality in having a brother three years older than themselves. The rest of your question was answered before here.
Do you plan on going back to Littleton in the next few years? :)
Absolutely. Funnily enough, Littleton (still) calls to me. 😉
I definitely don’t feel done there yet.. It’s more like in a sense, just a beginning of sorts.
How are you, Miss EC? :)
Alrighty. and you?
when you were in littleton, where did you get blackjack pizza? since the one the boys worked at closed down,
I did go to Blackjack and indulged in a delish personal pan pizza.
I went to the 5934 S. Kipling Prkwy store location. 🙂 There are a dwindling few to choose from in Littleton since the boys’ location closed on W. Ottawa.
A lot of ppl say that Robyn and Dylan were JUST friends and others say that Robyn had a crush on him.. Did Robyn have a crush on Dylan?
(For the umpteenth time. lol) Robyn liked Dylan..a lot. If she crushed him it was something she kept to herself. None of her friends mentioned she’d confessed to liking Dylan that way. She never made anything known to Dylan about wanting to be more than friends. Some just saw her kind of amp up the charm while in his company. But ultimately, Robyn and Dylan were just friends. Dylan himself said they were just friends and told his mom “she’s just a nice person” when she’d probed a bit as to how he saw her.
I want to provide some insight on to what Dylan was holding- My thoughts were “zippo lighter” because he’s holding his thumb near the top of it as to flip it open, and it might be just me, but if you look closely it’s almost like there’s a line along the top, like a flip-top, but I could be dead wrong and look like an idiot right now 😅
You may be on to something there. The object does appear to glint or shine momentarily in this ani gif. On the other hand, there is some sort of rows of texture on it which is probably what initially made people think it might be a cell phone in thinking that it had a button pad. Classic zippo lighters are generally smooth silver metal (at least that’s what I usually think of). Of course, it’s highly possible that Dylan had one that had some design engraved on the side of it or maybe a decal sticker. The shape of it and how narrow it is makes it seem the most likely object he was holding though. Thanks for your input! And any of us could be dead wrong.. there’s no way to really know for sure plus the nineties video quality is very fuzzy and makes it hard to distinguish anything. All any of us can do is be observant of the details of it’s shape, the manner in which he’s holding the object and take a blind shot in the dark’ and guess. 🙂
Do you think there’s any truth to the accusation that Dylan pushed girls in gym class?
Highly probable since certain political dynamics went on in gym class that steamed him. Please read the gym tag for eyewitness accounts that support it.
Brooks Brown & family on The Oprah Winfrey Show, 1999.
No way! I’ve never seen this before. Is it on Youtube?
Yes. It’s from an excerpt featured during a conference Gavin de Becker was involved in around June 1999. He was also the special guest (pictured far right) on this episode of Oprah. The conference itself was about preventing school shootings. You can watch the part with this clip here. I found it by pure happenstance while listening to this lecture tonight. I haven’t found footage from the actual episode anywhere else online, save for a small segment that included Rachel Scott’s brother.
Finally! Someone stumbled on a small segment from one (of a few) Oprah Columbine episodes that aired in ‘99. I’ve been looking all over for any of these on youtube so thanks to @nov-embers for sharing the find! 🙂
The episode snippet was entitled “The Brown family of Littleton, Colorado” from Season 13, Episode 99 (13E99) aired on May 21, 1999 – one month and a day after Columbine. Clip can be watched at 14:35.
‘The Browns’. – Brooks Brown and his mother Judy Brown appear on a special episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show to tell their side of things.
Also, I’m sure Brooks silently begs to differ with the guy going on about violent pop culture video games and music being an influencing factor of his two friends. To this day, Brooks is still an avid video gamer and still indulges in the occasional ‘violent’ first person shooter games and believes they are an outlet not an inspiration.
