I finished reading Sue Klebold’s book,
closed it, and put it on the shelf.
It didn’t end profoundly, or sadly, or deeply.
It just finished.
It was a little like Dylan, in that way.

I don’t know what I expected – I wanted
Sue to say that she loved her son, that she
always would. I wanted her to say goodbye
to him. I wanted poetry and imagery and beauty.
But instead there was just this:
“The world will become safer for all of us.”

And I’ve been thinking a lot about that.
Was there any beauty in her pain?
She spoke to God and she dreamt about
collecting her son’s sticky bones in her arms.
She knelt in the place
where Eric and Dylan had shot themselves.

The situation lends itself to poetry: the mother
of a murderer writes about love and acceptance
and grief and safety. But I can’t say anything
that she hasn’t already said. As a I friend and I agreed –
there is only so much you can say about Columbine.

Sure, it lends itself to poetry. Two boys wanted
to burn the world. A school became a warzone.
The media captured every bloody second
while the police just stood and watched.
Everyone played their roles.
But, years later, what is there left to say?
Thirteen shot; two shooters; and still
Columbine is standing.

They killed people, and that is tragic.
But every year, it gets further
and further away. They should be
grown up; they should have
their own children; they should
be alive.

But they aren’t,
and there’s nothing
else left to say.

The Sunshyine Boy during those awkward braces years.

The second photo kind of creeps me out because his eyes in this color snap literally look dark brown dare I say almost demonic, coal black and nearly match his shirt in color.  Pondering why Sue selected this particular photo out of so many to choose from, tbh. Though his unabashed smile is joyous. ❤ as oppose to his tentative class photo smile.

Dylan had a cat? What breed is the cat? why dylan didn’t record his cat in one of his home video?

The Klebolds had two cats, Rocky and Lucy. Dyl was in the third grade when he picked out his cat “Rocky”.  Rocky was a white cat and since he was selected from a shelter, was probably a domestic mixed breed puss.  I’m sure there’s probably oodles of photos and a few videos of Dyl with his cats, like say, on his lap at Christmastime, but unfortunately, Sue didn’t select any to publish to the media along with her book.

mclever80:

What is conlit/crt on Dylan’s? And indstflang on Eric’s? I can’t figured out what class these are :/
@everlasting-contrast

conlit/crt is “Contemporary Literature / Creative Writing”

Both boys took this class together second semester of Senior year along with Psychology.

Indstflang is “Independent Study of Foreign Language”

Eric was going to take an independent study of the German language before it had to be dropped because it was only Robyn and himself who signed up.

What was Dylan’s sleep schedule like during school? I’ve read bits & pieces here and there that he would go to sleep late and was always sleepy, is it true?

Dylan’s crap sleep schedule

aka …..

“Dyl?  Honey, it’s time to wake up.”

*10 min*

*peeks head in room*

“Dyl, you’re going to be late for class honey, time to get up.”

*15 more min*

“DYYYLAN, C’mon, already. Get up!  I’m’ leaving for work in 5 min…and don’t forget to feed the cats when you get home.”

*Advanced Calculus class right after 6-7 am Bowling*

“Zzzzzzzz……”

You said in one post that there was no bullet hole found in Dylans hat, but then in another post you say he died with his hat ON? I’m confused.

I should restate this by saying there does not appear to be any account of a bullet hole found in Dylan’s baseball cap.  In a couple of posts, I considered whether he kept his ball cap on or removed it before shooting himself – here and here. You would think it would make obvious sense for him to have just removed the darn thing so that it would not obstruct and interfere with his clean shot and laid it on the ground. But not necessarily. Dylan was so wedded to that cap as if it was almost like a second skin to his being that he may not have even considered removing it in the last few seconds of haste to off himself. Given the amount of blood inside of his cap and the way the blood formation appears in a distinct circle inside the middle interior of the cap leaving the rim edge largely unsoiled by blood, it seems a definite possibility that he raised the TEC 9 to his temple just beneath the bottom of cap’s fabric, pointing slightly upward and still managed a clear shot of his bare temple bone without putting a hole through the cap.

He may have singed the edge of the cap slightly with gun powder but nothing more than that. In this possible scenario, there would simply be no evidence of bullet hole penetration through the cap fabric which is why it was never was recorded. It’s possible that the investigation just omitted that detail; it certainly wouldn’t be the first time such details were overlooked or botched with Columbine. However, It seems more likely that nothing was recorded because the cap had no direct evidence in connection to his death other than having absorbed the blood flow seeping from his head wound. Dylan could’ve removed the hat but that it seems more likely that he left it on based on the blood pattern on the inside of the ball cap.  Once Dylan fell to the ground and landed on top of Eric’s leg and sputtered and thrashed aspirating up blood, the cap dislodged and landed on the floor beside his prone body.

“The wound of entrance is designated wound “A” in the region of the left temple. The projectile penetrated the cranium through the left temporal bone; exiting the head through the right temporal bone. The perforated area on the left side is beveled inward, the perforated area on the right side is beveled outward. Powder is associated with the wound on the left side of the head.”

“The projectile traveled left to right slightly front to back and slightly downward.”“The characteristics of the wound are consistent with a large caliber weapon; with a close contact range of fire.” “The wound is consistent with 9 mm ammunition.”“Sections are of skin revealing a central deeply penetrating wound associated with a few scattered fragments of powder residue in the deeper margins of the wound.”

do you agree that Dylan used Eric just to go through with his plans? in according to @colmbinecollective`s answer)

I agree that both used one another to achieve a means to their own ends.  It was a mutual using, a friendship which included a business transaction agreement, if you will – with a common goal in mind that would involve ripping the system by destroying their school and leaving this shit hole of a planet. Eric was the only one Dylan knew that late in the school year that was 100% down with NBK with little or no hesitation and it would afford him what he wanted most of all, to suicide with someone by his side. Eric would see Dylan through to the end and Dylan would accompany Eric on the journey.

How could Devon have seen the photo of Dylan hugging a cactus if Sue said the picture was developed after his death? Devon made it sound like Dylan showed her the picture.

I think it’s just the way the author, Jeff Kass, describes Devon’s reaction to the photo of Dylan posing with a big cactus in his book that makes it seem as though Devon had somehow seen the photo of him right after his trip and before his death. Some authors stated that Nate Dykeman or the Dykeman family went with the Klebolds’ on their trip to Arizona even though Sue does not mention this at all in the book. So, the assumption would be that either Nate or Dylan showed Devon the photo.  In actuality, at least according to Sue’s perception, their trip photos were not developed until after the massacre/his death.  If you take Sue’s account as the accurate one, then Devon saw Sue’s photos of their vacation after Dylan died and the Klebold’s developed the film roll. Author Jeff Kass was relaying what Devon’s reaction was to the Dylan hugging a cactus photo in retrospect, reflecting back to how he seemed to be coasting carefree towards graduation in her estimation in relation to the photo. However, his mom sees Dylan as not being humorous in the photo but rather tired and haggard.
