So was the girl he loved really Marla Foust?

We’ll never know for sure?  Marla  is certainly one of the top contenders mainly because she is someone that knew and hung out with him occasionally, and she also had the right number of letters to her name to fit Dylan’s Acrostic Poem.  But we need to keep in mind that dutch author,Tim Krabbé was speculating the letters and words Dylan might have used to fill in the blanks on his puzzle poem.

Maybe Marla

“This would’ve been before Eric had broke his nose and so he would’ve still been very enthusiastic and pumped up, thirsty for kills and revenge, in addition to the mere taste of it they got outside with some potshots at students on the school grounds.” You mentioned this in an answer once, and i was wondering of you could explain the difference in how Eric was acting before and after he broke his nose? xx

Eric was sharp, present of mind and just a liiiittle too trigger happy.
After Eric broke his nose, he was woozy, crazed and dazed, checked out at times – still trigger happy but a bit more unfocused.  He was more quietly, coldly, methodical before but after the bloody nose, he was more crazily unhinged. Imagine wanting to enjoy what you’d planned for over a year but instead you’re dealing with the throbbing pain of a broken nose and your feeling off balanced and woobly and it makes you a bit wacked out and yammering crazily something along the lines: “it’s the end of the world people, why don’t you want to die.. We’re all going to die sooner or later. Who wants to die, you?” and then suddenly going quiet and checked-out and not responding to Dylan who’d just ask him a question.

This post will be deleted in a couple of days. Why?  Because it’s an Eric post, guys. 🙂

do you have a picture of all the knifes from the day of the shooting

image

These are the all the knives the boys carried with them on 4/20.

From left to right, we’ve got:

1. Eric’s liner-locking folder that looks like a Dragon Forge Cheetah.

2. Eric’s Gerber Mark 1 knock-off.

3. Eric’s Pakistani-manufactured Khyber Bowie.

4.Dylan’s  “Cobra” style knife with spiked knuckle-guard, similar to the one seen in the Sylvester Stallone movie.

Eric wore his sheathed Khyber Bowie strapped to his right leg and Dylan wore his sheathed Cobra knuckle knife attached to his left hip. (don’t you love the opposing symmetry of that? Just another one with those Yin/Yang twosome.)

P.S. Dylan owned more than one knife but we’ve never seen those. He had enough of a collection that Byron commented on it. But ironically, Eric carried the most on the day.

What’s the story with dylan and cats?

image

Weeellll… Dyl was annoyed with the cat hairs sticking to his clothes. Yup. I’m guessing his two cats, Rock and Lucy, sometimes hung out in his bedroom and caused him a bit of grief with his ‘newly washed’ favorite black t-shirt.  I’m thinking he might’ve even had allergies too.  Can you imagine him with the pet hair lint roll trying to get the damn hairs off and cussing to the “controller of shit” for making his life infinitely more miserable.  Goddamn it! This is why I can’t have nice things!

Here’s a wee bit more on Dyl, his two kitties and his feline-like traits. 😉

Do you think Dylan genuinly enjoyed prom night?

I think he dreaded it at first and was looking forward to it being over. However, I think he found himself kind of pleasantly surprised in the midst of it all and by something he thought he would loathe so much. He was surrounded by some people he knew in the limo, some of which were part of the same gifted program in elementary school. They were all cutting loose and joking around. He was at ease enough with Robyn, enough to compliment how she looked and to hold hands with her as she initated that with him. The two clowned around over dinner pretending to light themselves on fire ( and what’s not to love here, hm?) Robyn and Devon managed to coax him out on the dance floor, and Devon got him to slooow dance with him to “Take My Breathe Away” – I mean, how is this miracle possible????!! Well, it apparently it was and so he must have felt o…k enough in himself to participate as much as he did – and part of that may have had to do with the fact that he was living this as if it was his ‘last party on the earth’. Celebration before death day countdown. He was going to do everything at that dance for the very first and very last time in his life, so why not? Just let go. Eric wasn’t there to set boundaries that he shouldn’t dance because ‘it’s ridiculous looking’. Dylan was with people that wanted to pull him in and get him to participate. That’s what he did to the best of his ability. 😊 Later, at After Prom, he got to rejoin up with Eric and his other dudes and they hit the gambling tables. I’m sure he was good at poker and figuring out all the right card deck moves and the right advantages to win. Guys eat that sort of stuff up, and he was no exception. Then Robyn took him home.. I love how Robyn drove him to and from prom – very cute that she was a bit ‘in charge’ that way because she claimed him to be the dude to go with her to prom. 😏 Yeah, I think he had a pretty good time, certainly better than he ever expected or hoped for.  Sue mentions that Dylan was actually effusive when he got home and confessed to her  “I had the best night of my life” according to her book “A Mother’s Reckoning”. I think that he meant that genuinely..that it was a pleasant surprise.

Doubts

Brooks came home from school, and told his mom that a friend had tipped him off about a Web site Eric had created, in which in addition to hate language and angry threats such as “I am the law, if you don’t like it, you die. If I don’t like you or I don’t like what you want me to do, you die. God I can’t wait till I can kill you people”, he also threatened to kill Brooks.

But Klebold cared enough about Brown to alert him to death threats on Harris’ Web site.

It was Dylan, the loyal friend, who had tipped Brooks off about Eric’s Website. Dylan was afraid of Eric finding this out, so asked for Brooks to not tell anyone who had tipped him off.

“He was really looking out for me,” Brown said. “That’s the way he was. An extremely good kid.”

Although the Browns reported this to the police and they were aware of his Web site, no action was taken to look into it. No one, even Brooks, believed that Eric would follow through on his threats–they just thought he was blowing off steam. [Source and Source]  –

Doubts

A month after Columbine, Brooks reasoned that Dylan told him about Eric’s malicious website threats because he was looking out for him.  Two plus years later, he questions why Dylan would do such a thing: “maybe he thought it was funny” “maybe he was in on it with Eric”.  Years go by and Brooks complicates Dylan’s intent to do what he did, rationalizing it until he’s one big permanent ball of confusion. And yet, it seems pretty simple to me:  Brooks was Dylan’s friend from childhood but Eric was also Dylan’s present good friend. Dylan liked both and was obviously caught in a moral dilemma. He cared for the potential safety or lack thereof of his old friend yet was nervous to broach the subject with Eric and tell him to back off Brooks because in his defense of Brooks it would ruin his relationship with Eric. After Dylan lost Zack to Devon, he couldn’t stand to lose Eric as well over political shit about Brooks.  So, Dylan opted to take a risk, to secretly warn Brooks and tip him off about the website, purely out of respect for their history together.  He asked Brooks for his confidence and he pretty much solidly trusted that Brooks, his long-term friend, would not mention anything so he wouldn’t risk losing his friendship with Eric.  Dylan went behind Eric’s back to keep Brooks safe. There was no way to avoid that in trying to protect Brooks.  He knew Eric would never see it that way thus the subterfuge.  So, it seems crystal clear what Dylan’s intent truly was.  Brooks merely let the fact that Dylan made a terrible mistake in the last 49 minutes of his life color everything about his character long before he ever made that choice.  Long before Dylan was fully committed with NBK, he cared for all his friends and  never wanted to lose a single relationship with any of them. Dylan couldn’t stand the thought of abandonment, to either lose a friendship or by putting a friend’s life in jeopardy which in a sense, amounted to him abandoning them. He’d begun to worry when Eric, who had kept upping the ante with the Brooks website death threats, was going to finally simmer down and forget about it. It just kept getting worse, and eventually, Eric started broadcasting Brooks’ phone number up on the website. So, Dylan intervened and it was quite a risky thing to do for him but he was starting to get a bit worried. He knew the Brown family well from his childhood friendship with Brooks. He wasn’t super close with Brooks these days but they had a lot of good past times together; they were still friends, if a bit more distant. Dylan simply cared too much.  But, eventually it got to the point where he let go of the caring because the need to end the pain and leave the earth seemed to hold more sway.   If Dylan was the one that came across Brooks on the morning of 4/20, there is no question, imo, that he would’ve let him live.   Granted, it would have been a very awkward bumping in to one another but…it’s unquestionable that he would’ve spared Brooks’ life without need for considerations. The loyalty towards a friendship would’ve been clear even then on that terrible day when everyone was supposed to be fair game. Over the years, Brooks forgot this about Dylan and who he was in their personal friendship and doings together.

“He was really looking out for me. That’s the way he was. An extremely good kid.”

What Brooks said in May ‘99 about Dylan in the article above, is the uncomplicated truth which he’s chosen to forget and rationalize away.
And Dylan was just that. End of story.  The act on that fateful day shouldn’t have negated any of the ‘good’ or ‘right choices’ that Dylan had made over the year/s before. A couple years after Columbine, Brooks begun to direly need for Dylan’s motivations to be questionable in that moment, shady even, because he simply could not manage to reconcile that Dylan was a good friend that made a decent choice in that moment as he’d done the majority of the times in his life beforehand – yet made one colossal destructive mistake in the end. And yet, the irony…that Dylan could’ve unwittingly stopped Columbine by making that right and good choice, by warning Brooks, but that was not to be in the Hand of Fate.

everlasting-contrast:

Another one of his favorite bands was the Chemical Brothers.  And at one point, Dylan talked with Devon Adams about going to one of their upcoming concerts.  But Devon notes, “He obviously never ended up going to it because it came in summer of 1999.”

This would have been the concert they would’ve gone to together at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 1999.

Very Sad..

Classic Reblog..

Zack Heckler described Dylan as a “Chemical Brothers Fan”. The vibe of this music is true Dyl to the core with that kind of funky flavored, electro-techno beat.    The Chemical Brothers puts on an amazing, high-energy show with entrancing light-show visuals that pulses and breathes in time to the rhythm of the music.  You can’t just listen to their music and ‘get it’; you have to go see them live to really feel the entire experience and also what strongly appealed to Dyl. Tbh, The Chem Bros is like a key component to his individualistic tastes and personality.  If NIN spoke to his sadness and darkness, The Chemical Brothers spoke of his kinetic vibrance, smarts and jovial spirit.

whats your personal take on the 911 call , the second they walk into the library, i can clearly hear Dylan raise his voice he had some good pipes on him lol if someone was to ask tell you ” “hey they would of shot you too if you were there that day” how do you respond to that? when explaining there was sooo much more to Dylan than his Tech 9

Yeah, it always astounds me how Dylan could have such a soft, hush voice but could hit sonic boom with that massive vocal projection in no-time flat.  The power of his voice was the channel of where all that hidden, suppressed, swallowed up rage was stored.  It probably felt very cathartic for him to blast people with it even when he was just doing the silly video productions and just letting loose with his character voices or yelling expletives with the monitor he tossed didn’t land on the bike (GAWWWD!!!).   It was like ‘surprise, people! LISTEN UP, oh yes, I can command attention with the power of my voice; I am not the timid, meek little mouse you’ve all miscalculated me to be.’   He kinda reminds me of one of those little blow fishes that suddenly puffs up 10 x it’s size and you’re going ’ what?? how’d that happen?’

Would Dylan have shot me too?  Yep, probably.  The thing is, that day was a ‘two man war against everyone else’.  Everyone that accidentally was in the way was automatically fair game to be on the receiving end of their / his guns. Simply casualties of war. (and I realize that it sounds callous and detached the way I just delivered that answer but I’m just simply giving you the bottom line answer to your question of whether I’d be prey to his predator.)  The mercy or lack thereof was entirely up to them and at their discretion on their Judgment Day.  The only potential saving grace – and not sure-fire by a long shot – is if he and I knew one another in some way and there was commonality in like and respect.  John Savage and TIm Kastle are examples of two being spared, one a friend the other an acquaintance, and simply because Dylan knew them both and thought them to be decent human beings.  If Dylan felt you treated him with respect, if he felt something for you and viewed you as a thinking person, there’d be a possibility of being spared. But again, it was entirely his choice to make. If he and I didn’t know one another then I’m a hell of a lot less lucky for the sheer fact that there is no thread of a connection between the two of us that might make him think twice. I’d be just another nameless, frantic girl on the battlefield of Columbine.  Nope, no guarantees at all for anyone on that day, myself included.  On that day, Dylan for the most part, became one with his Tec-9.  His mind was the instrument, the trigger impulse, lord over of all of those weapons at his disposal.

How do you think Dylan would look present time ? Maybe gained weight / hit the gym got a 6 pack lol , wish he was here I feel like his life could of turned out to be just fine. there was/is something special about him, I feel he could of helped many others like himself . RIP DYLAN YOU ARE MISSED <3

Probably pretty darn close to the physique of his brother, Byron (photo below) – a bit beefy maybe if not with a bit of that slight middle-age paunch around the mid-section. Like Bryon, Dyl’s would’ve grown into his long, narrow face. The width of his face would be rounder and fuller and so his nose would shrink within the perspective of his wider-set face.  His chin would be less pronounced and pointy. Dyl would have a receding hairline, without a doubt.  I think he’d get premature balding before any sign of gray. After all, it runs in the family with his dad and bro. Some wrinkles on his broad forehead and traces of crinkle lines from over the years when he’d laughed hard, you know that full-on grin where his eyes just bunched up and got all squinty?

Mm.maybe his life would’ve turned out fine but maybe not. It’s difficult to say.  The sort of depression he had needed to be addressed long-term or else it would’ve kept manifesting in college and cropping up throughout the rest of his life with failed relationships or jobs or whatever external problem he was struggling with. I tend to think he was genetically prone towards the depression too but with the right therapist and long-term treatment and also support of older, wiser friends, he could’ve pulled through.  There was definitely something special and unique about him, then, and yeah, even now.  And, I’m sure he’d appreciate the irony of how his ‘past has reacted to the present and the future and vice versa’.  But I’d say don’t worry, because Dyl’s still managed to help others, is presently helping others like himself right now. It’s all good. 🙂

1,what’s a trance fest, and 2,what type of hypno/hippie/Trance-y/high like music from today do you think he’d like, and what type of that kinda music did he like them? Thanks!

Here’s a 90s Orbital concert and I’m sure they did a shitload of Fests back in the day. I do believe Dyl and Eric attended an Orbital concert and certainly a Prodigy one.  I picked that vid for the lolzy crowd with the 90s hair and outfits. Orbital still tours today and they put on fantastic shows. Same with Chem Bros with their mind-altering fantastical light FX shows.

What are Trance Fests?  This is a present day trance festival. They’re much larger in scale than Raves. It’s like a techo trance Woodstock, a wide-open communal event with a variety of trance/techno/psybient types of music.  The hypnotic, often repetitive sound of the music, the rhythmic beat and the strobe light effects and visual imagery at these fests at night helps to alter your state of consciousness.  Think modern day 90s/2000s electronic psychedelic trip hippy music. 🙂  It’s basically a spiritual music love fest, a collective consciousness of people coming together to experience the chillin’ jams. Mind altering recreational drugs can happen here to enhance the experience.

As a teen, Dyl appreciated a few genres of Techno/ElectronicTrance music such as Chem Bros, Daft Punk, Orbital as well as ambient (FSOL) and  illbient trip-hop, DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid, etc.  Here is some present-day music I think Dyl most definitely still might enjoy.  If he was with us here now at 33,  I bet he’d still be up for an occasional trance fest simply for nostalgia sake and also just to get exposed to new groups that are on the scene. Here are a few goa psybient trance artists. There’s loads of them on youtube and the playlists are all trippy good. here  and here  and some trance fests here and here

Namascray. 🙂

Dylan looks so cute in the short clip from Jan 30. Do you think he looks a little different in that clip/gif? He does to me, but he’s still reeeeal cute.

image

Yeah, I know what you mean. He does look different; he looks vital and healthy, his face fuller. I think it’s a combination of the fact that Dyl has short hair in the clip plus he was still a decent weight here. His KMFDM t-shit fit him well and he could almost be a jock in physique That day, Jan 30, 1998, was a moment suspended in innocence, I suppose you could say. Hours later at night, the two boys would be arrested for the van theft crime. The shame and shock from that, of having to be part of a juvenile diversion program for a year, led Dylan to internalize and conclude that he was meant to be the forever ‘outkast’, the ‘criminal’ in societies’ eyes. The downward spiral would really begin to take hold from that day forward. His appearance began to change and become more scraggly, disheveled and individualistic. The weight came off and his pants became a hell of a lot baggier on his legs and the t-shirt arms stood out from his very stick-thin arms..
