Maybe. I mean, yeah, if he had dumped Eric, there would’ve been no NBK. The girlfriend would’ve been a distraction for however long that lasted. If it was a short-lived relationship that ended badly, the suicidal thoughts would still be circling back at him again.
Did the boys ever talk about nirvana? If not what do you think their thoughts on nirvana were?
Ok, guys, just so you know, my Patreon account needs to get $25 every time I get this Top 10 repeat Q. 😉

“Could I have told Dylan I loved him and would that have stopped him?” Do you think that Devon was in love with Dylan at all or did she mean this in a platonic sort of way?
Platonic love for her best friend. This has been spoken about a lot here. You can use the E-C Search to find previous discussions. 🙂
March 11
“Four strong winds that blow lonely
Seven seas that run high
All those things that don’t change come what may
But our good times are all gone
And I’m bound for moving on
I’ll look for you if I’m ever back this way…
– Four Strong Winds – Ian Tyson
A song about being a seasonal migrant worker and its effects on a love affair…
The very song Dylan (and others) laughed at when his English teacher played it for the class. When Sue and Tom found out from the teacher at a parent/teacher conference that Dylan had laughed, they seized the opportunity to teach him a lesson, and set him up.
“As we talked, Tom hit Play. Eventually, Dylan recognized the song coming up in the background. Knowing he’d been set up, he started to laugh.
“Why are you playing that horrible song?!”
“Why is it horrible?” I asked him. He said he hated the “weird” sound of it. We told him what the song was about. “Just listen to it with an open mind,” Tom requested. Without protest, Dylan listened to the rest of the song. When it was over, he admitted it wasn’t that bad. We told him how hurt his teacher had been, and talked about the importance of respecting the feelings of others. He admitted it had been wrong to laugh” (A Mother’s Reckoning, p. 225).
This conversation occurred March 11. It happened the night of the parent-teacher conference (and after they had visited the college in Colorado that Dylan was planning on going) where Sue and Tom found out about the disturbing paper Dylan had written.
I was re-reading Sue’s book and this chapter got me trailing off in my thoughts… I often wonder (although I think I know the answer) if Dylan did see something that he liked about the song or if he always, like in this case, just readily agreed so that he wouldn’t have to hear a lecture he didn’t care for. (I think it’s the latter.)
It’s funny to me because Dylan longed so much for love and the feelings that come along with it, and I feel that the lyrics to this song express this deep sadness of a love that was and is no more. I feel that if Dylan had listened to the lyrics, it would have drawn him in. Maybe more than he would have cared to admit.
The latter. Capitulated that ‘it wasn’t that bad’ just to get them off his case over being found out for having his own initial reaction about it which they deemed as rude.
Wow, have you seen Devons recent post talking about Dylan? It’s so sad.
I have, yes. 😕 Devon is such an eloquent writer and always has such a beautiful way with words. I figured I would share her public message here with all of you…💖
Hey #walkupnotout
As a survivor, I live every day with thinking what I could have done differently. Having been friends with a murderer, how did I fail? How did my actions or inactions lead to the murder of my friends? Could I have told Dylan I loved him and would that have stopped him? What if I had spent more time with him? What if I had swallowed my fear and dislike of Eric?
What if what if what if? My rational brain says that it’s highly unlikely that I would have had any effect on what happened. But I still march. And I still speak out. And I spend every April 20th practising and advocating for kindness. I can’t live in regret, I can only use my experience to press forward.
Stop victim blaming. And stop discouraging social discourse – especially about difficult subjects like the senseless murder of children. Protest, activism, and awareness are not mutually exclusive to kindness and compassion.Walk out.
Walk up. I walk with each of you.

Search and tagged are separate :) as long as you know what words were used, search features searches for all posts with those words in them, you don’t need to worry about retagging old posts
Yep but even the search has limitations. It’d be nice to have everything tagged properly as another way of finding things via a tag index. 🙂
Would Dylan have ever agreed to be interviewed in prison had he lived?
I don’t think so early on in his life. Maybe when he was much older, when he felt like someone could learn something from his mistakes and benefit from listening to how he fucked his life up. That is, assuming he lived long enough to tell.. 😕
so dylan tried out for the school’s baseball team but didnt make it. i dont understand why, since his friends and family say he was a very talented player. do you think he was discriminated and cut from the team because he wasnt cool enough (or w/e)? it seems very silly that they would refuse to recruit him just cos they disliked his quirks/awkwardness. he must have felt like a failure and it was completely unfair :'(
I think it was probably a combination of Dylan not being able to be at top form because he was still dealing with his elbow injury and also that the CHS baseball try-outs likely had a lot of favoritism going on. I think probably many competing were in the same social circles or deemed the ‘cool players’ and those were the dudes that got picked. I don’t think it was that Dylan was awkward it’s just that he didn’t stand a chance because getting picked was biased against him as pretty much everything could be at CHS when it came to sports. Dylan basically told his parents he wasn’t all that fussed not getting picked because he didn’t really like any of the players. At least, that’s how he rationalized losing a chance of playing his beloved sport as part of school.
When you have free time I think you should overhaul the FAQ to be a site map of sorts, instead of individual questions and answers (or included with them) have a broad statement and then which key words to search for, like “classics, movies the family watched: movie night” “straddling a girl’s leg, tampon incident, locker incident: school incidence” obviously those aren’t all correct wording but I hope you get what I mean sorry
I would but the only problem is? I don’t have the free time. Lol There’s a lot of pages to E-C and much of it is not tagged consistently. It’d be a massive undertaking to be sure. That FAQ ended up becoming a huge project that I just didn’t have the time for hence it being incomplete. 😐 If Tumblr had any easier way to review old pages, I’d bother with re-tagging the whole thing except that it doesn’t.
Do you have a personal Blog that we can follow or would you like to keep yourself anonymous?
I’ll give out that blog to those that I know that DM me their request off anon. 🙂
Do you think Eric and/or Dylan ever watched Space Jam?
Oh hale no. Lol
Was there a reason they chose propane bombs, specifically? Was it because that was the easiest thing to get their hands on?
Probably, yes, and the easiest to purchase and cart around as unassuming ordinary BBQ fuel as well as not being messy or volatile. They either got the idea from the Anarchist Cookbook or just searching around on the WWW.
Does lance kirland have a tumblr because the previous ask, the person said they read something from his account?
Account as in his eyewitness account from the 11K
Did Dylan know any programming languages?
Beginning QBasic andVisual Basic, MS DOS, Unix, was learning Linux.
Where did Dylan live before moving to Colorado? What area, what house?
Dylan was born and raised in Colorado.
Did Dylan ask Robyn to prom or vice versa? Sorry if this has already been asked but I’ve searched your prom 1999 tag but couldn’t find the details of how they’re date came to be. Thanks.
Robin asked Dylan to go with her as friends and he said yes as a favor to her even though he didn’t really want to go.
💖spreading love!💖 love, love, love💖i love comin’ here
I ❤️ you back and 💖you visiting ✨E-C✨☺️
I’m having trouble understanding how Dylan was so cruel during the shooting; I was reading Lance Kirkland’s account & it’s chilling how heartless Dylan was. Granted, to carry out a mass shooting in the first place is disturbing but Dylan apparently took sadistic glee in the murders. I would imagine witnessing a human dying&in pain would naturally induce some mercy yet instead it was met with mockery. Can you help explain his psychology here? Especially since Dylan was generally a caring person .
People that decide to murder people generally hang the caring hat up at the door and leave it behind. Dylan is certainly no exception. You can’t walk on the school grounds full of an assortment of weapons, ammo and explosives and be that killer that kills his victims gently and with oodles of kindness and compassion. A murderer needs to be cold and disconnected from their own humanity and others in order to destroy others, to be merciless. I answered an ask which was similar to yours and explained the psychology behind it here and here.
