Not so much a question, but the anon from SoCal. It has not been raining at all here. We need it, that’s for sure. Thank you for your kind words. I’m also going to be in Denver for work and I have my tickets to see Sue Klebold speak at the symposium. I am very excited.

Oh good, I’m glad to hear SoCal is getting some much-needed water. Our state desperately needs it!  I gotta say I’ve been enjoying these rainy November days as it’s nice to chill out and be reflective.   I’m glad to hear you’re going to make it to see Sue next month!  Please be sure to let us know how it goes and if you ask her a question. 🙂

Sure is convenient for “everything to fall into place” when you’re 100 yrs old, spend 24/7/365 on tumblr, & practically kill yourself to insert yourself into a tragedy & a 90s teenager life (lol for you). But as long as you impress the idiot tumblr masses you’re relevant, right? Luv that newfound religion btw lol. “It was a carthasis.” Stop lying to yourself honey he was a pussy who couldn’t face death alone. Sad for you that’s a hero. Love? He woulda loved the IDEA of any pussy. You’re an idiot

THROW IT AWAY

Smashed up my sanity

Smashed up integrity

Smashed up what I believed in

Smashed up what’s left of me

Smashed up my everything

Smashed up all that was true

Gonna smash myself to pieces

I don’t know what else to do

(5)

More lyrics scribbled by Dylan into his day planner, in the week spanning May 4-10, 1998. This song is Gave Up by Nine Inch Nails (released 1992), and it’s notable for a few reasons.

For one, the words are classic NIN, and ergo, classic Dyl. It deals with feelings of angst, isolation from society and others, and self-loathing. The protagonist’s response to these feelings is self-destruction: “Gonna smash myself to pieces/I don’t know what else to do”.

The frenetic chorus that follows the introduction to the character’s pain and heartache is the portion Dylan copied word-for-word, suggesting it resonated the most. He even included a reference to his favourite number (5) beneath as though to underscore the relevance of the words. The repeated refrain “smashed up” evokes rage and violence each time. Note as well phrases such as “my everything” and “all that was true”. ‘The everything’ is a concept consistently repeated in Dylan’s writing, and he uses the word ‘true’ frequently and reverently as well.

I understand the everything. I am the god of the everything.

Secondly, the music video for Gave Up was shot at Trent Reznor’s studio at 10050 Cielo Drive – the address where the Tate murders took place on Charles Manson’s orders. In November, 1998 – six months after copying down these lyrics – Dylan wrote a paper on Charles Manson for his creative writing class, and was possibly (probably?) aware of the link between Manson and Reznor. The video also features a different Manson connection – a cameo from Marilyn, who would come under public scrutiny after the Columbine tragedy, and go on to immortalise Dylan (and Eric) in his song, The Nobodies.

In another example
of kismet, director David Lynch played Gave Up on repeat on the set of Lost
Highway
, Dylan’s favourite film, to set the mood for the actors. It was a
fitting choice. Psychologist and researcher Peter Langman has observed, “The
film is notable for the way it shatters reality and identity; Dylan’s statement
that the film sounds like it’s about him suggest that his identity and grasp of
reality were deteriorating”. These themes are mirrored in Reznor’s lyrics; Dylan in turn found his own reflection in both of these creative works.

He X’d out 5 as himself. 😶

What do you think Eric & Dylan would think about the fact that Columbine shooting is no longer the top 10 words shootings in America?

Per the Basement Tapes transcript:

They expect to be famous, to have a cult of followers after they die. They have advice for whoever those kids might be.

“If you’re going to go f—— psycho and kill a bunch of people like us … do it right,” Klebold says.

They (the teenage E & D from back then) would believe they accomplished not only kickstarting a revolution but had others succeed with far more devastating results (than what they shoestring budget pioneered). The current mass shooters ‘did it right” and in their name.  But they’d always be ‘the first’, the two that started the movement, no matter how superior the weapons or how much bigger the kill count.  Future successors point back to them for residuals credit.

I don’t understand why everyone thought it was weird that they suddenly wore all black. They seem to make a massive deal about it. Was it weird for people to wear all black on the 90s?

Because Littleton CO was/is a very conservative community. Wearing all black may have been the standard edgy teenage thing in the 90s but it was automatically viewed as weird, scary and unwholesome to the mainstream, conservative Christians there.

In terms of continuing this blog, do what is best for you! Sometimes things change, that’s just a fact of life.. you’ve done a ton for this community and we are so appreciative, but people need to remember that you don’t owe us anything and have your own life.

I really appreciate your neutrality in understanding that this is ultimately my decision to make. Thank you for sharing your gratitude, openness, and positivity. 🙂

Why did Eric tolerate Robyn but not Devon?

I think you meant to say that Devon couldn’t tolerate Eric. lol  (She ended up reporting him to the office at one point because he threatened her life).  Let’s not forget that Devon was Zack’s girlfriend and Eric was resentful of Devon for being like the ‘Yoko Ono” (her words) that stole Zack away from their little Three Musketeers broship. So, he saw her as a threat. Robyn was no perceived threat to any of their relationships as she was simply Dylan’s close friend and Eric’s too by association to his best friend.  Had Robyn taking up with Dylan in a relationship you can bet it would’ve rubbed Eric the wrong way.

What did Dylan give Eric for his birthday? Did it ever mention it in any post?

I would suspect that Dyl gave Eric a birthday stogie which he smoked in his car as they were on an NBK shopping trip per the Basement Tapes transcripts:

They pass the intersection at Sante Fe and Mineral and the filming stops. It’s still light out when the camera comes back on. The car is now on Broadway, north of Hampden. Eric’s still driving. They’re stopped at a red light or stop sign on the east side of Broadway. Eric’s smoking a large cigar now which he says is his “birthday cigar” [Eric’s birthday was on the 9th]. He and Dylan say they have just purchased two large fuel containers and three propane bottles. Dylan says he now has his pants. The camera is turned off once more.

Once you get this you have to say 5 things you like about yourself, publicly. Then you have to send this to 10 of your favourite followers. (Non-negotiable positivity is cool) 🌈🌈

Thanks also to @pure-bliss-and-halcyons for the invite as well. ❤

1. My Mae West-like hourglass figure

2. My cupid’s bow lips

3. My ability to remember many events in relation to date/year

4. Being animal intuitive and conversing with my cats using emotions.

5. My ability to channel write when I hit a vibe since normally it can be an arduous challenge.

As with @acinnamon-girl , I’m going with Dyl’s affinity for No. 5 and will send this to 5 fav followers. 🙂  10 is just a bit too daunting besides, I’m sure you’re all going to get repeats of this at some point. lol
