The plans and how these boys planned the massacre always fascinates me. It’s quite surreal.

Mmhm. Definitely fascinates the lot of us and keeps us coming back for more. They were a one of a kind teenage dyad that dreamed and set in motion an unfathomable, destructive plot in a still somewhat-innocent, ripe time period where it could easily be executed and right under everyones’ noses in broad daylight. What they did then in 1999 can no longer be done today with the same impact and all in part because of them. 😉

I’ve read No Easy Answers and the Jeff Kass book, are there any other good Columbine books I should read?

Honestly, those are the two best books we have right now, imo.

There’s another decent, thought provoking book by dutch author Tim Krabbé called “We Are But We Aren’t Psycho” that I’ve seen english excerpts of and it too is a very good book but unfortunately, has not been fully translated into the English language as of yet. 😦 The lovely and talented thedragonrampant was kind enough to translate a few choice excerpts from this book here.

What things do you imagine Eric and Dylan fought about? Like having arguments and such..

No major real fighting but annoying one another type nit picking stuff. Just the typical mundane crap; fighting like they’re an old married couple annoyed with one another’s usual traits and whining back and forth at each other. Eric getting pissed at Dyl eating stuff off his plate (after he finished his own) like stealing one too many french fries and waffling it down. Dyl leaving shit laying around at Eric’s house after a sleep over and Eric annoyed that stuff needs to be pickup and put back into order for his parents. Eric being pissy and moody at Dyl for spending too much time lately smoking cigarettes with Brooks and not him…or Zach..or Nate.. whoever Eric disliked at the moment. Dyl getting annoyed at Reb for nudging him just a tad too much to go say ‘hi’ or make a move with girls he knows Dyl has a crush on, and Dyl getting flustered, embarrassed, agitated and pissy because he only wants to do that on his own terms when he’s ready to. That umpteenth time they went to see Tobin at “All Wound Up” and Reb is bugging the fuck out of Dyl “just go up to the counter V and make a move already, ‘GAAWD!’.” Dyl getting maxed out and fed up with Eric telling him what to do, how to do it, and oh yes, to “shut up, Dylan!” acerbically yelling that to him in front of a bunch of peers and girls. Eric being a tad too merciless picking on certain girls and Dyl telling him to stop already, shaking his head. Like that time Eric relished making fun of Jennifer Harmon trying to sing a Rammstein song ‘like a dork’ or when Eric went ballistic on the girl that accidentally ran into Dylan’s car and was in tears, apologizing for it. Dylan being so fed up with Reb so just point-blank calmly orders him to “get in the car”. Eric making fun of Dyl’s music tastes with the ‘emo gnashing bumpkins’ and let’s not even go into Chemical Bros. A cold-war silent treatment did happen briefly between the boys as accounted by Blackjack manager Jason Secor.

What did dylan have around his wrists in the picture of him and eric dead was it bracelets

Those silvery gray ‘bracelets’ were functional match strikers which the boys’ ingeniously cut from the side of a box of matches and taped together with silvery grey electrical tape, each bracelet had two strikers. They could easily light the fuses of their pipe bombs and other incendiaries in a very consistently accessible manner. In the boys’ usual symbolically contrasting yin/yang, aesthetic, Dylan being left-handed, wore his striker bracelet on his right wrist and Eric being right handed wore his striker on his left wrist.  The ingenuity of their amateur invention was considered ingenious by the authorities.

Dylan was going to go to the University of Arizona and you know who went there? Kourtney Kardashian. She was there apparently from like 1998 all the way to the 2000s graduating with a bachelors degree in none other than theatre. I can imagine Dylan bumping into her there and being annoyed already with a Kardashian. lol.

Kourtney Kardashian started going to the University of Arizona in 2000 after transferring from two years at Southern Methodist University. Thank fuck Dylan didn’t have to cross paths with her because her voice grates on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard..

Positive you have answered this but I’m curious as to what books Dylan read? Did he mention any? I only saw references to music in the journal

Unfortunately, we don’t really have any books that Dylan referenced reading in his notes or journal.

A few thoughts that come to mind:

I’m sure, he like Eric, read the Doom Series

In researching for his book report “The Minds and Motives of Charles Manson” Dylan referenced cited work: Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi as a main book source.

I’m sure several of the High School required reading books listed
here.  Classics to up to the present day, early ‘99.

In ‘No Easy Answers’ Brooks mentions how he and Dylan et al loathed the required reading of ‘A Prayer for Owen Meany’ by John Irving and so having been paired in on a collaborative exercise both took liberal creative license with a  wicked irreverent twist on the book. Plus, you just gotta just love Dyl’s ‘god of coolness.’  Must be brother of the god of sadness? 😉

Jennifer Harmon said this about him:

While many kids admitted they just skimmed the assigned novels, Dylan finished them weeks before his classmates.

At 617 pages, John Irving’s “A Prayer for Owen Meany” seemed like a daunting read for many in the class. Dylan finished it two weeks before the deadline. “He was a whiz at all of his classes,” says Harmon.

“He didn’t even have to try. He just knew everything.” [Source]

and another classmate said..

“When we we read Shakespeare,” a girl in Klebold’s English class told the Denver Post, “he would always get the hidden meaning.”  Not surprising, really.. 😉 [Source]

If I think of any other books Dylan read, I’ll add on to this post.

have you ever had a moment where you sit there watch documentaries read the journals close your eyes and you start to cry? So many people lost their lives that day sighs … I wish Dylan and Eric would of just held out for a bit longer graduation was around the corner why was the rage sooo intense ? I hope the boys did not sit there thinking they would get booed as they walked the stage on graduation one last humiliation :(

You know, I don’t really think the boys even considered or fantasized what graduation might’ve been like for them at all really. Their minds were made up and anything beyond April, they were just completely checked out on.  The two weren’t really even raging or emotional this late stage in the game either. They planned the attack for at least eight months and so now they were on auto pilot mode with fine tuning the last minute details of their planning.  By the last couple of weeks, they were coasting in and winding down towards their date with destiny.  Even Brooks Brown mentioned that Eric seemed unusual ‘serene’ within the last couple of months  – whereas the year prior, in ‘98, he was more a frustrated, raging hothead. Dylan was chill and philosophical about it all if not quieter and sadder as perceived by a few people and family members.  Jocks drove by and threw bottles at their feet and Dylan said to Brooks matter of factly:  “don’t worry about it man, it happens all the time.”   So, there was this kind of focused  ‘calm before the storm’ demeanor about them.  It was too late by this point.  Had it been a few months back in ‘98,  if someone or something had made a drastic change either by making some kind of difference in either of the boys life or if someone had interceded with serious intervention and broken the two up then disaster might possibly have been averted.  Even if small, seemingly insignificant things happened, the ripples of positive change could’ve veered the boys off their destructive course.  For example, Dylan and Brooks had been spending time writing screenplays together.  If Dylan, Brooks and Zack had managed to convince the Ascot theater to allow them to put on their more edgy, creative productions (that Columbine disallowed) then Dylan might’ve found a creative outlet and a pinch more sense of self worth in doing something he felt some passion about. – or –  if Eric had begun dating Susan DeWitt back in the summer or fall of ‘98 she might have been the one to make that difference as he alluded in the Basement Tapes: ’‘Susan, sorry. Under different circumstances it would’ve been a lot different”.”  By March and April of ‘99, things were just simply too late.  They were going through the motions with mundane things like school and work, chugging along until the final countdown, and to do “what we had to do”. Their mindset was locked and they firmly believed what they would do was what had to be done and there was no other way around it.   Yes, it’s very sad and very frustrating when you watch the documentaries or a few of their funny, creative amateur video production tapes.  Many people senselessly lost their lives that day to a karma-like tragedy. All fifteen victims including Dylan and Eric.  Two victimized boys lashed out, randomly destroying the lives of thirteen unknown victims as forfeit recompense for their own pain.  A vicious cycle of victim->victimize->victim in which all are lost.

How do you deal with people harassing you online just for discussing Columbine and not even saying anything in support of it? Do you get a lot of hate for your blog?

Mm, well, perhaps I’m lucky but my blog hasn’t really received much if any harassment or non-supportive comments. At least none that phases me, I should say.. 😉 *shrugs*  I suppose I’m blessed with pretty intelligent, empathetic followers and any newbie visitors that somehow stumble over to
E-C often find themselves enjoying the spirit of knowledge, information and speculation that envelops Dylan’s blog.  If some come bringing shock, disgust, fear and judgment, that’s fine too but it just means that they haven’t really taken the time to really view the content here. They are still clinging to a belief system the media ingrained in them to believe that the Columbine Shooters are explained away as only one-dimensional cardboard psycho “monsters” that deserve to be banished from the thoughtful considerations of society as the flesh and blood, flawed individuals they were, as real people.  And by the very society that had a hand in creating what Dylan and Eric became in the last 49 min of their lives.  We are all a part of Columbine. We are all Rachel Scott just as much as we are all Dylan Klebold.

/soap box.  😉

What exactly were Dylan’s kinks and/or fetishes? Also, did he mention any of it in his journals?

As referenced in Dylan’s journal:

pg. 26,414 ; 1-20-99

“I’m forever sorry, infinitely, about the pornos. My humanity has a foot fetish & bondage extreme liking. I try to thwart it sometimes to no effect. Yet the masturbation has stopped.”

and here:

pg. 26,396 ; 9-5-97
“[redacted] can get me that gun I hope, I wanna use it on a poor SOB. I know … his name is vodka, dylan is his name too. What else can I do/give … I stopped the pornography. I try not to pick on people. Obviously at least one power is against me.”

From there we can essentially extrapolate some of his preferred kinks/fetish genre tastes. I think from ‘97 up to‘99, he began to gravitate towards these specific themes more heavily whereas earlier on it was just various and sundry porn.

Do you have any idea if Dylan had contacts?

image

When Dylan got his drivers license October 16, 1997, the dossier mentions corrective lenses.  However, it is possible that after his first (and last) license permit was issued, he might’ve worn contact lenses.  The drivers license data often isn’t updated regularly enough to reflect such changes.  Of course, we don’t know to what extent Dylan’s vision needed correction  He may have only needed a slight bit of correction – but then again, if you look at the close-up photo of him with glasses when he’s attending Devon’s bday party, you can see that the lenses are fairly thick and they distort his eyes making them seem smaller. Usually, thick lenses automatically suggest that he needed a fair to heavy amount of optical correction. It seems a good possibility that he wore contact licenses during the day while at school and work so he wouldn’t have to deal with the ‘four eyes geek’ comments from jocks and such.  He could also switch to his signature sunglasses while wearing contacts. Who wants to go through the hassle of switching off the eyeglasses to put on sunglasses? By the end of the day when Dyl got home, he’d pull out his beater eye glasses, giving his eyes a much needed break while chilling out in the comfort of his own home. The video footage that Judy Brown filmed shows Dyl with his glasses on while working sound in theater.  I would bet this was in the evening when he was doing pre-production for plays so he just preferred to wear his glasses as it was probably more comfortable around theater peers.

Do you know about the allegations directed at Brooks? I always see, like, an implication that he did something to/with a 16-year-old but no one seems to talk about it now? Did I miss something?

Back in March 2013 when Brooks thought it was a brilliant idea to get a Tumblr account as an ‘experiment’ and grace us with his presence *chokes* , a teen girl outed him claiming that he was pedo that had been sexually hitting on her because he was fascinated with her dressing like a ‘living doll’.  She posted chat convo transcripts claiming it was legit dialog between the two of them. We are not talking a mere couple of pages of chat transcripts but several pages of conversation in which the dude interacting with her sounded kinda, sorta, yeeah, definitely did, like arrogant and snarkily intelligent Brooks Brown. At the most yuck points of the convo, ‘Brooks’ was willing to stoop so low as to divulge tidbits about Eric and Dylan, in exchange for getting the girl, who was fascinated by Dylan and Columbine, to concede to acting out his doll fantasy where he would break her tender virginal self to him  Basically, he was willing to use his loathsome connection with Columbine to lure a minor into agreeing to sexual favors with him. With each chat, he kept up’ing the ante trying to get her to give in by revealing a bit more stuff about E & D.   Also, there were a couple of full-on masturbation vids that she posted of him from the neck down doing his thing for her, close up and personal. It was bleach your eyes out stuff, folks, x 10 – because yes, imo, it really did sound like his voice while doing you-know-what for the camera  The girl claimed to be 15-16ish, I forget exactly –  but it turned out later, she revealed she was more like 18 or 19. Even though she was older, she was still a hell of a lot younger than him.  Word spread all over Tumblr that Brooks was a pedo.  After about four days of Brooks’ experimental (haha) stint on Tumblr, he deleted his blog, tucked tail and left quietly.  He also went private on Facebook and Twitter. Many were upset that she was a victimized minor and while that’s essentially true,  I will say though that she spent a lot of time teasing and luring him in as much as he spent trying to get her to give in. She boasted about exposing him pretty much and seemed to be out for him, to ruin his reputation.  They were both playing each other but, eh, the creep factor here is just the fact that a 30 year old guy would be spending time online entertaining the prospect of seducing a teenage girl.  So, just based on that fact alone, it does not excuse his creepy, manipulative behavior.  I also believe the chat transcript between the two took place right before Brooks separated and divorced from his wife.  After a while, the girl that started the whole thing just sort of disappeared off the scene.

When Brooks first started on Tumblr and opened his Anon message box, the first response was: “Brooks we like you now, get out of here, go home.”  Dude probably should’ve heeded that and given up on yet more attention-seeking because it basically bit him in the butt. And I’m sure Eric had a good laugh over this whole thing somewhere.. 😉

Again, I just want to say I have no proof that it was him. However, it’s my strong opinion that it was.  I had that sinking feeling the whole time and everything just pretty much added up.

What does NBK means?

image

Inspired by their favorite movie, Dylan and Eric code-named their super seckret planned date of their attack and likely referenced “NBK” all the time around their friends and family with a smug smirk on their faces.
i.e. “like, dude, I don’t think we can make it to see the Matrix on that day cuz that’s NBK”  *wink wink*  nyuk nyuk..

In that page of Dylan’s journal, when there’s a huge three tiered cross, and then a square that says existence or something and has other squares inside it,what does it mean? I can’t figure it out

So, hmm, you know this phrase?  “Think outside the box”
It is defined as:  “A simplified definition for paradigm, a habit of reasoning or a conceptual framework. A analogy is “the box” in the commonly used phrase “thinking outside the box”. What is encompassed by the words “inside the box” is analogous with the current, and often unnoticed, assumptions about a situation. Creative thinking acknowledges and rejects the accepted paradigm to come up with new ideas.  On a simple level: Thinking Inside the Box is to follow a structured, limited, rule-based way of thinking and to think outside of the Box is to go beyond it’s boundaries, into limitless  creativity and absolute freedom.

Dylan refers to his diagram – “Existence”  = ( is)  The Box.
The Box is a bit like The Matrix.

What The Box essentially represents is the societal paradigm of a structured ‘life existence’ framework.  Within the confines of The Box’s parameters, he defines the present, limited human hierarchical order in this this current existence. Yes, I know that was a mouthful – sorry about that but bear with me.  😉

Inside of the large ‘Existence Box’ there is a division of boxes within boxes. Dylan further defines a total of four box subset groups as the “limitations”. Each is a box within a box spanning outward smallest to largest in space. The smallest box being the most densely populated and each consecutive one has acquires larger space yet becomes more sparsely populated.   Even though all boxes are encompassed under one large box (of Existence), Dylan points out that there is ‘limitation’ as each is a group divided from the other: inclusive to those within each box and exclusive to those outside of each box. The first box is densely populated and labeled  “Most” but it’s also the smallest box. In short, it includes many but it’s small in space.  This signifies that the acceptable majority within society are also the most select, exclusive group and tucked away within the corner of the box almost as if it’s harder to obtain that special, designated space. There are many within it but it will only hold, or include, so many citizens that are ‘lucky’ enough to be deemed a part of it’s community.  It is also the smallest box in the literal sense because it represents the small minded sorts that rely on thinking inside the box at the most limited, confining sense of existence.   Spanning out from the smallest, elite  “Most” box is the larger box defined as  “Some”.  This grouping is next in line to have a sense of belonging in a fairly acceptable existence group yet the box is a bit larger, less crowded (like the cattle or herd of “Most” )and more liberal in space but also in terms of societal rules and regulations.  Outside of “Some”, are the “Few”. This third box essentially represents ‘the outcasts’ category from the two previous acceptable degrees of the societal majority.  The “Some” have a esser sense of community or belonging here inside “Existence” but it’s also a larger box and containing the free-thinker, the unconventional citizens embracing less acceptable liberal minded views to that of the herd mentality of the “Most/Few” society. While the ‘Some’ are misfits they have their own opposing brand of ‘special’ to the elite “Most”; they are unique individualists that think for themselves and do not follow the masses.  They do not need a mass of others to set the rules and help define them.  Outside the “Few” is the vast box of “None” which represents…..no one… it is the no man’s land of  “the nobodies”, the “nothings” , the bottom-of-the-barrel losers of society that don’t even amount to a mere blip on the radar of human societal existence.

Interesting to note, that Dylan does not even put himself here or even “Some”.  Dylan puts himself completely outside of the Existence Box which means he is exiled even from the ostracized faceless “none”. He is also puts himself far, far below it as if symbolically he’s ‘fallen’ from it’s grace.   Basically, he means to say, that he does not fit into any or all  of the human Existence subset categories of “limitations” as defined within The Box structure.  This is because Dylan sees himself as a stranger completely and utterly isolated and detached from the foreign, limiting societal framework that is The Existence Box. For all intent and purpose, you may as well say that Dylan views himself as an Alien from another planet. A stranger external from and rebuking a foreign land.  He does not belong or fit into any category with The Box and not even the the most excluded category within it;  he’s separate and divorced completely of It because he’s simply not even part of the paradigm structure equation. Actually, Dylan draws a box around himself as “Me” which defines himself separate, vastly different and complete disconnected from society.

He also writes “Infinincy” which amounts to essentially forever-ness within/without the vast universe of time, space and thought continuum.

Larger than The Existence Box itself, is the symbolic paradigm of the triple-barred cross, Dylan’s ‘Everlasting Contrast’ symbol, which is the moral, spiritual compass of Life (Ankh), and the Universe as a whole.  The Existence Box is positioned in the middle, between the duality or joined opposing forces of “Good” and “Bad” and represents the struggle within the balance between the two forces. The Existence Box and all contained within it, are defined by the these Dualism laws under a sense of ‘morality’ by way of the rigid tenants of ‘religion’.  According to Dylan, “They”, within the Box, believe that ‘Good’ and “Evil” is a battle that can be won, yet to him, They simply don’t understand that the dual opposing constructs are merely a universal constant that humanity can’t ever hope to overcome or triumph over.  Dylan defines himself as the large slash (“cut here”) intersecting across the two polar, mirror opposites in union yet also conflicting division within himself. He’s embraces his contrasts yet struggles with the dark and the light within him.

“Good and Bad equals me.”

“The (paradigm) framework of society stands above & below me. The hardest thing to destroy, yet the weakest thing that exists. I know that i am different, yet i am afraid to tell the society. The possible abandonment, persecution is not something I want to face, yet it is so primitive to me.”
