Do you ever go back and watch some of eric and dylan’s tapes and just think wow you two existed at some point and it’s so weird watching the tapes knowing they’re dead.. hearing their voices knowing their dead and what they did it makes me sad it’s crazy how after all these years we still get to hear their voice

Oh yeah, absolutely. What’s even worse is when I’m cleaning and find something dated prior to 4/20/99 like a receipt. I found one the other day, a gift from my mothers from Dec ‘98 from the holidays. I just stopped in my tracks while skimming it upon seeing the date.  It really messes with me emotionally, and I catch my breath when I think back to the exact time knowing where they were at and what they were up to at that point in relation to me within my life.
*SIGH*  If only, if only.

Do you think Dylan watches over his mother? And sent a message to her?

Oh yeah, absolutely I feel that he does.  Sue often talks about how Dylan is frequently in her dreams. She is very rational, logical type of person by nature and so even though she wants to experience her son there is this skeptical nature about her. However, when she’s sleeping, in an unconscious state, Sue is most receptive and vulnerable so he would be able to connect in with her best.  Sue has also mentioned that she felt Dylan was there alongside her in presence when she was writing A Mother’s Reckoning.  In a sense, it was like a joint effort between mother and son. ❤

Regarding reincarnation, I think you mentioned Dylan was an old soul. If he had other lives before why would he be tethered to his incarnation as Dylan, or to the connections he made during that sad lifetime. What of the incarnations&connections hes made in previous one’s? Perhaps he’s been reborn already and closed the door on his being&life as Dylan. Or would his soul need proper closure with those he left behind (his mother) & atonement for those he killed (those seeking it) before moving on?

He wouldn’t be ‘tethered’ because that implies restrained or fastened to an incarnation.Tethered applies better to ghosts which are earthbound spirits that haven’t yet relinquished their physical incarnation on the earth plane. But once a spirit has crossed over it becomes more about processing the ego-based personality or persona of their previous incarnation and arriving at certain levels of acceptance, understanding, and forgiveness and processing and working through issues so that they can move to the next level.  That can either be in the form of avoiding addressing their actions/choices and responsibility in previous particularly challenging and intense incarnations (especially ones that end unresolved and/or violently) or dwelling on it to the point where they are self-hindering from progressing because they don’t feel worthy of forgiveness. In order for a spirit (or soul) to receive “proper closure,” they would need to fully acknowledge and own all of their life’s choices which they’d made and to reach a place of understanding and forgiveness within themselves.  Self-forgiveness is the most difficult lesson of all but the most important step to releasing and moving on to higher levels of enlightenment.  Some of the ‘atonement’ processes would involve connecting with their victims and an acknowledgment and exchange of forgiveness.

When Eric mentioned the kids in Kentucky with camouflage and .22s, who is he referring to?

In this post here, Eric was referencing Kentucky and Arkansas on the Basement Tapes and him and Dylan having the idea before those happened:

December 1, 1997 West Paducah, Kentucky 3 Deaths 5 Injuries
Heath High School shooting: Three students were killed and five wounded by 14-year-old Michael Carneal, as they participated in a prayer circle. Carneal was sentenced to life in prison.

December 15, 1997 Stamps, Arkansas 0 Deaths 2 Injuries
Concealed in a wooded area on school grounds, 14-year-old Joseph “Colt” Todd, wounded two students as they were entering Stamps High School.

Also interesting to note that on 11/3/97 Dylan entertains in his journal a redacted someone possibly getting him a gun and going on a killing spree a month after this shooting occurs:

October 1, 1997 Pearl, Mississippi 3 Deaths 7 Injuries

Pearl High School shooting: 16-year-old Luke Woodham, murdered his 50-year-old mother, Mary, at home before killing his ex-girlfriend, 16-year-old student, Christina Menefee, and 17-year-old student, Lydia Kaye Dew, then wounding seven others at Pearl High School.

Sorry, I just meant who do you think may have brought it up first to the other? I asked another blog and they said Dylan mentioned it in his journals before Eric did. But, they also seem more of a fan account than an informative one like yours. I should have phrased the question better.

No need to be sorry. 🙂  Dylan started writing his journal in March ‘97 and Eric started his journal a little over one year later.  So, it stands to reason why we see Dylan’s entertaining a gun for killing himself or for a spree earlier on in his journal. It’s simply because Eric wasn’t writing a journal at the time. But just because we don’t see the physical evidence of Eric writing the concept of “NBK” down on a piece of paper doesn’t at all mean his mind was innocent of any notion or concept of “NBK” or simply just talking about it verbally with Dylan.  Eric started writing his journal as a concerted manifesto intended for the public post-mortem because both had decided to put ‘NBK’ into action instead of just kicking the idea.  After the van theft arrest on Jan 30th, the two began to have a change in their thinking between Feb and March where they began to seriously consider carrying out a real ‘NBK’.and not just fantasizing or joking about the idea.  During March, they ended up in court to determine their punishment for their felony and they were indoctrinated into the Diversion program. During these two months, their actual serious planning phase for “NBK” had begun.

Mind you, Dylan very first reference to the term “NBK” was written on Feb 2, 1998 – just shy of two days after getting arrested by the cops for the van theft.  Next thing you know,  Eric begins his manifesto and he dated his entry on April 10, 1998.. But Eric just never had a reason to write a journal before if it was only intended for himself. Why write in a journal when you can fantasize about it in your head all you want?  He had started writing in a journal for practical purposes since it was geared towards an audience after NBK and his death to explain his reasoning and their actions.

Lastly, Eric said it himself that the two had thought of the idea long before those solo school shootings began to crop up in the late nineties.

“ Basement Tapes: in reference to the Kentucky and Arkansas shootings:

“Do not think we’re trying to copy anyone. We had the idea before the first one ever happened. Our plan is better, not like those fucks in Kentucky with camouflage and .22s. Those kids were only trying to be accepted by others.”

Do you think Dylan knew that his death (not just the massacre, but his actual suicide) would be devastating to his parents? Because I’ve heard of people, who are depressed, thinking that no one would care of they died. And if so, why would he still do it if he knew it’d cause them pain?

I don’t think he really spent much time considering it too deeply.  I surely do not think he came to the conclusion that his mom and dad would be so devastated to the point of becaming suicidal over his absence.  As you suggested, I think he was similar to so many that are deeply depressed – that Dylan rationalized that they’d be better off without him in their lives. I think he believed he had become more burdensome as time went by and that he had faltered and was no longer living up to their ‘perfect’ and ‘excellentt’ expectations that he used to be able to manage effortlessly without fail.   And he probably wondered too whether he would’ve been able to manage the high demands at college. Glimmers of excitement over learning computer science but uncertain, overwhelming horizons ahead in managing socially out of state and maintaining grades and not feeling equipped to manage all of it.  Like these massive mountains ahead and you just can’t find the will (or point) to climbing them.  Again, the focus is on himself and not on his parents’ reaction after he’s found his deathly reprieve.

I know it’s not your intention, and for some of us your blog it’s so interesting & accurated. But do you know that some of the last ‘school-shooters’ copying Columbine got inspired in blogs like yours, right? I mean, you said in one of your latest posts that the media treated Columbine info so bad, making it so infamous, but in a certain way, you are doing the same. You are bringing Columbine topic 19 years later & some kids can get influenced in a bad way :(

I think there are many more blogs out there that fit the bill better for so-called ‘inspiration’ as far as glorification goes than mine.  That said, I’m willing to concede that mine could potentially be viewed that way, sure.  By the same token, any blog discussing a true crime case could be a catalyst – and more importantly, everything that Jeffco released as far as the boys’ journals, their personal videotapes, etc. have, without a doubt, been influential to wannabe shooters. Everything that Tumblr blogs regurgitate is based on the case information, photos, videos released by the authorities. But this is a factual crime case and on top of that, it’s a tragedy has been engrained in the US in historic proportions as much as 9/11 had become.  No one can really be hush-hush about it. No one can sweep it under the rug in an attempt to put the cat back into the bag because it’s too late for that.. There are just some historical events that will always be discussed and examined with a fine tooth comb in multiple online communities and social media no matter what decade it is. Tumblr happens to be very imagery oriented and not forum/text discussion.   You cannot prevent peoples interest or sharing of factual or media-related information any more than you can prevent people discussing Hitler and Nazism as part of World War II while running a certain portion of risk that certain angry, susceptible individuals are going to latch on to Nazism stuff because it feels attractive for them to emulate. They might even become inspired to join Neo Nazi groups if the will and intent is there within them.  This logic that you’re playing Devil’s Advocate within in your Ask is very similar, simplistic logic to the people pointing their fingers at Doom (and other video games in general), or wearing trench coats or listening to Marilyn Manson as being evil inspirations to the shooters.  This was rampant in a kind of finger-pointing paranoia blame game after the tragedy.  But at the end of the day, who is responsible for taking fantasy to reality and killing people at their school? Eric and Dylan.  External influences such as informtion, photos, pictures, discussions can’t cause anyone to do anything.  Most people that are fascinated with true crime and this particular case and explore it regularly are doing so as a past time interest.  The bottom line here is these at-risk, susceptible individuals are already in a deteriorating mental state. They have gotten that way out of various experiences in their personal lives. In this particular case, it’s often due to other people bullying and marginalizing them.  So, if they’re planning to commit homicide or suicide, it’s generally because they’ve already gotten to that point mentally and not because they’ve surfed into the True Crime community on Tumblr and viewed my blog and decided to attack their school. It’s honestly about choice and anyone can get super immersed in a subject but at the end of the day, it’s whether they cross over into that deranged territory of making a decision to do something stupid like shoot up their school. No one can force them to do so.

My feeling is that it’s all about how you handle the subject matter and material in a research-oriented, fact-based and respectful way –  although I do provide speculation in relation to questions asked in alignment to the facts. My blog is about sharing the information and being educational so that people have a full understanding that Dylan was a human being that struggled inside himself.  Like most of us, he had shades of good and bad. His tragedy is in surrendering to the bad part of himself and choosing to obliterate himself while taking others with him. He wasn’t merely a one-dimensional, one half of the evil, ‘psycho’, nasty-from-birth trenchcoat mafia shooter and unknowable twisted fuck (which the media still tends to perpetuate to this day)  He was so much like any other teenage boy out there really. That’s what should be scary yet profound. It’s not about Us vs Them, those terrible ‘bad’ Shooters. He is any one of us in a bad place inside themselves. I feel that getting to know the inner world thought process of ‘A shooter’ has important, invaluable lessons for people to learn about in a positive, enlightening way.  I’m not here to publish photos that glorify anything in relation to this tragedy. You will not find flower crowns here or me buying/posting guns similar to the boys or posting their t-shirts. That is simply not what this blog is about. However, there are plenty of other blogs out there that do so and that’s their thing.  You can’t really lump in every single ‘Columbine’ blog as being bad and influential.  But again, at the end of the day, would-be shooters will find inspiration from just about anything under the sun.  The last one took inspiration from just about anything including Satanic imagery.  Whatever works; whatever personally compells them.  The rest of the world exploring a historic crime online is not responsible for what they ultimately make the choice to do.
