Been wanting to write Sue to thank her for being courageous & sharing her story. I found her book in a dark time in my life & it was really inspiring & helpful. #1 priority is to respect her, of course. Even though I’d only be addressing the positive impact she has made through activism, I’m afraid that by writing to her, it’s yet another reminder of the tragedy. Don’t want to cause any extra sad emotions that may arise from writing. Do you think I should write, or would it be best to not to? ❤️

As far as I can see, you’d be writing Sue in a respectful manner.  And Sue will always be reminded of the tragedy and the role her son played in it.  She knew that full well when she decided to write and publish a book about her intensely personal story dealing with the tragedy and explaining how she coped. She spent a lot of time immersed in writing and editing the book as well as going through the book tours and having very public interviews on tv, etc.  She knows too that when she speaks at conferences that she’ll be ‘going there’ and sharing and communicating with people.  I know that she feels that talking about it repeatedly, and airing it out in the open and discussing various memories and the wisdom she’s gleaned in hindsight with strangers and friends helps her just a bit more with her healing process. I do not think you would be stirring up any grief that she hasn’t already dealt with. She has processed through a lot and I think it strengthens her to hear other people’s stories and to discuss things. IT will fortifier her in knowing that people are inspired by her too. 🙂  I can tell you’ve carefully considered this and that you’ll be able to approach writing her in a very sensitive and respectful way.  So, yes, absolutely, I do think you should write to her. Please do let us know how that goes. ❤

Hi E-C I am searching to see if you ever wrote about this and I just missed it but I was wondering if you ever pondered in depth WHY Dylan needed to commit a violent act in order to commit suicide?

Because committing such an extreme crime, he would not be able to back out and it would literally push him out of society so he would have no options left other than leaving the world – death by cop or to die by his own hand. NBK was the ultimate catalyst forcing/propelling him to his death.

Do you think the original reporting and media circus of the Columbine shooting contributed to the copycat crimes? The media was really irresponsible.

Absolutely and also the current media circus that knee-jerk compares every single shooting to Columbine in their news story recap as though it’s a certain, select and special calibre of infamous top comparison certainly perpetuates it to this day. They’ll do it even when it’s hardly relevant or there isn’t even a close comparison to the number of fatalities just because it sensationalizes their story. This type of reporting subliminally gives would-be shooters the idea that Columbine is still a cache to aspire to or to try to top.

Hello Miss E-C! What do you think Eric and Dylan’s intentional “message” was to the world when they went NBK? I understand that both of them had separate goals, because Dylan’s wanted to die and move on to the afterlife while Eric wanted to kill as many people as possible. They targeted Columbine because in their minds, that was the physical representation of their suffering. But in the BTs they keep explaining that they wanted to leave a “lasting impression” on the world…

…world by causing as much destruction as possible. And saying how no one would do this sort of attack in the future, yet encouraged people who would to “do it right.” Did they want people to follow in their footsteps and kickstart some sort of “revolution? But a revolution against what, exactly? (Sorry if this was a little confusing, but I hope I was able to make my question clear enough to you 🙂 Thanks so much!😊

Hello again there 🙂   ‘Did they want people to follow in their footsteps and kickstart some sort of “revolution”?  Damn straight they did.  They wanted to be these sort of idk pioneers? representing the dispossessed, undermined, disempowered, mistreated misfits which would rise up and rebel against The System aka the Politically Correct mainstream normies (aka those that fit in), the wealthy elite, the societal favored acceptables (aka “popular people”) all those who dressed all alike, thought all-alike and abided within the boundaries of  societies rules and regulations.  Their Revolution would inspire others that felt like them inside, that had been bullied and picked on, those who were raging angry and so beat down and depressed enough that they felt they had nothing to lose anymore. Those that felt that because their own lives felt pointless and meaningless other peoples lives were of no worthy either – or they shouldn’t be anymore because of how they felt they suffered by them. So basically, those certain, select types of individuals that also felt spat upon and marginalized just like them that would then watch their videos (the Basement Tapes) that was basically their ‘Call to Arms’and it would rouse viewers to follow in their footsteps, led by their example – and ‘to do it right like them!’ – meaning don’t just go in aimless shooting without a plan all emo-like – but instead, have a well devised plan with an arsenal and lots of instruments of destruction. So, others like them would rise up and plan their own brand of internal terrorism and inflict their wrath on a public place of their choosing which had caused them personal oppression (i.e. educational system aka school).  The revolution would be a chain reaction in which various other individuals would surprise attack and rip the system, make their ‘FUCK YOU!’ mark on society and take themselves out in the process while spreading chaos, pain, suffering and anarchy in their wake. So, basically, this destructive Revolution of the Powerless Nobodies would destabilize the Empowered Somebodies and fuck up The System and beat it and break it down. The security that people living within The System were used to would be threatened and would no longer feel safe.

Hmm, does this sound familiar to you?  😉    Because I do believe they managed to very slowly fulfill their prophetic-like intent – even though most authors, psych experts and historians would prefer to brush it under the carpet and say that they didn’t manage to start anything and that it was nothing more than delusions of self-grandeur.  That said, I also believe that Rachel Scott did start the polar opposite chain reaction of positivity, kindness and compassion.  Eric and Dylan’s was a ‘tear down humanity’ type thing and Rachel’s was a ‘build up humanity’ constructive revolution. Oh, those Indigo Children.  😉

And you’re welcome 🙂  ❤

a part of me feels like eric would like grunge because of the anger and screaming but grunge is also really desolate and i feel like he would’ve found that too emo lol so i feel like dylan would’ve liked grunge more

Nah, Eric could get plenty more “anger and screaming” from German Industrial and Metal put together than Grunge could ever adequately provide.   Dylan was perhaps peripherally into Grunge see here but Techno was by far and away his favorite thing.  Grunge was a very in-fashion thing in the Nineties and overall these two went against the grain.

But I’m going to end this by saying: please do not send me (yet another *SIGH*) ask as to whether the two liked Nirvana. Also, please also do not ask me whether they might like certain bands/music/songs you think they might like (just because you do doesn’t necessarily mean they did).  I won’t answer these Qs anymore. Seriously.

And I should have a disclaimer somewhere about this by now.. lol

How many more dead children amd dead adults will there have to be for someone to fucking do something about it? For someone to say enough is enough? I am fucking angry, this is the 22nd school shooting this year and the 3rd alone this fucking week. I can’t imagine what those poor kids and faculty members are going through, I can’t imagine what past survivors, their families, victims families are going through finding out another school shooting has happened and and so many more lives were lost.

Yeah, I hear ya. It’s like the fucking movie Groundhogs Day with this country and its short-term memory.  The reaction to the Parkland students protests amounted to a collective pat on the head ‘that’s nice dear’ from the adults in charge and it then became business as per usual in the USA after the weeks went by.  And then today with another ‘oopsy! it happens again!”  But of course it did. Well, why in the heck wouldn’t it happen again? I mean, what in the world did everyone expect? This problem ain’t just going to miraculously go away after the Parkland protests. No, it’s only just begun starting with the Parkland protests. So, you know, nothing has changed one single, solitary bit. Why would anyone be surprised that another shooting the magnitude of Parkland has occurred yet again, and so soon?  The message is clear to these kids how easy it is to do. Hell, the government basically allows them the ability to express their homicidal tendencies all too easily. Many of the parents/guardians of these kids are of a dysfunctional culture that thinks it’s a-okay for their own troubled kids to collect such weapons as a hobby aka Cruz). The US continues to make it pretty damn easy for them to get their hands on weapons. So, what did we all expect? The bottom line message in this country is that enough is never enough for anyone, apparently. The slaughter of innocent bystanders – of youth in schools or adults in public places – is the price to be paid in order to keep the Second Amendment exactly the same with no amendments to accommodate the circumstantial changes of modern times. The “mental health” thing certain people like to throw out there as a deflecting shield in response to fire arm restriction. But it’s a joke and a worn out tired one too. It has become an empty, meaningless ploy signifying nothing to anyone. No one ever takes that seriously or even scratched the surface trying to tackle the problem.  The fact that no one really cares about overhauling the mental health problem is a mental health issue with this entire country in and of itself.  It says a lot about our character as a country when talk is cheap and the slaughter continues regularly. I feel that the only hope is the younger generations continuing to stand up and say “No, not again, this is unacceptable that the country that I live in places no value or worth on my life and they are fine with regular internal terrorism. That they care more about liberally allowing the purchase of firearms to all citizens rather than ensuring my sense of security and safety in a place of learning!”

There was a shooting a few hours ago about 20 minutes from my school with at least 8 dead. That’s so freaky and sad to me considering I just became interested in columbine a few weeks ago. Feeling weird and shaky

It’s me the Texas shooting anon again.., we are finding out more info and he sounds like a columbine copycat, he wore a trench coat with Nazi symbols and had pipe bombs … This is so surreal it was so close

So sorry to hear you’ve been shell-shocked in residing so close to ground zero of this current tragedy. I can imagine how surreal it must feel for you – and we can only imagine how shocking it feels for those that go to Sante Fe, hm?  All too close to the Parkland tragedy, and I’m sure more emboldened students will rise up from this event too.  The Columbine copycat aesthetic is unfortunately all too typical to the point of it being sadly an ordinary motif.     Please don’t overdo being on Tumblr or watching tv.  Set your limits so you’re not oversaturating yourself because it could cause you to freak out and tailspin. Most importantly don’t guilt yourself over your interest in Columbine. I know many of us tend to feel badly about having an interest in True Crime and specifically Columbine and the boys after another one of these horrific events occur. But we need to keep in mind that someone else trying to emulate the boys and quasi-attempt to repeat ‘a Columbine’ means that that someone had been suffering and struggling inside themselves for some time and they gave in to their dark, mentally unwell urges with the use of all-to-handy firearms and externalized their pain onto others.  They are like clone E & D soldiers going off to battle with no hope of living for any glory. They want to be a casualty just like their victims. And another one bites the dust.  They are a tragedy of their own making..in addition to the innocent lives they took. These shootings are a pool’s reflection of the problems that were going on inside Eric and Dylan that have never been resolved in our dysfunctional society.  So, it’s not your fault to have gotten interested in something that is, unfortunately, such a relevant and rampant issue in our world still today, nineteen years on..

*Hugs*  Take care of yourself today, please?  ❤️

My question on what may have changed Dylan’s mind on NBK to which you answered “psychedelic plant medicine” lol Unless you were being serious, in which case my misunderstanding ;). But i understand if you simply don’t want to answer my question since you get so many here. I do apologize though if I’m missing something obvious that could be found using the e-c search.

Oh, that one. Haha.

Oh no, I was most definitely serious when I answered you.  Why wouldn’t I be? That was not ‘sarcasm’. Believe me, you’ll know when that happens. 😉

Finding a girlfriend and falling into infatuation that late/close to NBK wouldn’t have necessarily have been the quick fix needed.

I think he would’ve needed an epiphany,  something that would’ve jolted his present reality lightening quick. It would’ve had to have been something that changed his perception internally and not something externally as with meeting a girl – or not something that would’ve taken time and patience like therapy.

I don’t know how to describe it but whenever I see quotes from Dylan’s old friend describing how sweet a boy he was before the shooting, it makes my heart heavy like damn why did you throw your life away like that?

I feel ya and I’ve been there before in deep thought and feels..as so many of us have.  But you know, he threw it all away because he didn’t see or understand the value/worth of his life.  NBK was just the exclamation point, a way to drive home how excluded and hurt he felt.

I apologize if my question was redundant and something you’ve answered before (that’s the only reason I can fathom based on your sarcastic response). It’s a bit of a broad question though so what should I type in the e-c search to narrow it down to what I’m looking for? ‘Nbk’ and ‘suicide’ just bring up a whole bunch of different type of questions to sift through. Thank you for all your efforts that you’ve put into this blog by the way.

Now which “sarcastic response” would that be?  😉   No, seriously though.. not sure what you’re referencing and trying to locate. What is your question?  🙂  I have no problem with people that make a concerted effort to find things on there own. This blog is massive so one-word searches aren’t always going to get you to where you want to be.  And thanks for that. It’s nice you’re appreciative of the blood, sweat and tears that goes into E-C. ❤
