Feel free to ignore the personal text below…

My sister got me thinking quite a while ago about the use of the word “halcyon” in Dylan’s journal. I hadn’t paid much attention to it until I was listening to some music on the TV and Orbital’s song, “Halcyon” came on. I decided to google the song, knowing that Dylan had their album with the song. The song itself doesn’t say much lyrically (unless you get the remix), but I found that the brothers wrote it for their mother who for a long time was addicted to the tranquilizer, Triazolam, generically known as Halcion.
Googling the word (not the drug), Halcyon came up as a bird, that Natives believed were supposed to have had the power to calm the wind and the waves while it nested on the sea during the winter solstice. Since then the word has been adopted to mean “tranquility”.
It’s not a common word at all and the fact the Dylan took the time to understand the meaning… It really goes to show there was a much deeper side to Dylan than what many see when looking at him. It makes me wonder what originally made him use the word— The song? The bird? Was it the drug? Did he even know or did the music make him feel an emotion that he put the word to? Maybe I’d ask him about this if I could ask him one question…

“Bitch” (2) vs. Klebold (1)  Gym class = battle zone

Dylan Klebold always seemed to be more of a follower, a quiet boy caught up in Harris’ spell. But his temper could flash. Tara Zobjeck, who had a gym class with Klebold, remembers that he kept tackling people roughly when they were playing tag football. “One time I yelled at him, I just told him to knock it off,” she said. “Bitch!” he screamed at her.

Sophomore Tara Zobjeck and other students describe the trench coat group as socially maladapted students who occasionally, but not constantly, were picked on. But like other students, Zobjeck recalled a disturbing encounter.

Last year, she said, she and Klebold were in a coed gym class. She said Klebold had a habit of shoving girls to the ground, even tackling them, during flag-football games. Finally, she yelled at him to knock it off, and he turned on her.

“He was like a loner in that class,” she said. “Nobody liked him. And he hated me, because I yelled at him. And then he started bothering me, calling me a bitch and basically yelling at me and stuff.”

Matthew Wills
(007380), boyfriend of Tara Zobjeck, threatened to kick ass of Dylan Klebold for harassing Tara.

Wills reported that he knew of Harris and Klebold, but did not associate with them.  Once he threatened to kick Dylan’s ass for calling his girlfriend, Tara a “Bitch”.  He threatened to kick Dylan’s ass because his girlfriend told him Dylan was giving her a bad time on campus.  Wills reported that the football players didn’t like the “Trench Coat” people because they would do things that would make students “sick”, like “really make out in the halls.” He said the jocks just didn’t think the things they stood for was cool.  Wills reported that he did not see any of the incident.  Matthew Wills told me that he knew  Evan Todd, a friend was in the library during the shooting.  Todd has been interviewed.  Wills also reported that he walked past the cafeteria on his way out of the school and noticed nothing usual.

I talked to Tara Zobjeck, Wills girlfriend.  She has been previously interviewed.  She told me that Dylan had been calling her a bitch on campus because of a dispute that occurred in gym class.  She told her boyfriend, Wills about her being called a bitch.  Wills then told Dylan he would kick his ass, the name calling stopped.

Eerie.. The great editing on this one makes you feel like you’re standing behind a tree listening in on one long, casual R & V chat.

“Anything that moves, that’s made of….clothes.”
Love that paaause. 🙂

The first play of our senior year was Frankenstein, and I won the role of Frankenstein’s monster. The play Frankenstein isn’t anything like the old Boris Karloff movie, with the giant mumbling monster who lurches around with corks coming out of his neck. The stage version of Frankenstein is much more loyal to the book’s theme of society fearing what it doesn’t understand.

Frankenstein’s monster is a deep, troubled creature who was created by a scientist, then dismissed as an abomination. From there, he wanders alone, labeled as a “freak” by the rest of society and rejected by everyone who sees him. The cruelty eventually leads the monster to seek revenge.

the-everything-frame-of-mind:

At this time I completed an interview with Dylan’s brother, Byron Klebold (DOB 10-23-78). Byron indicated he is no longer living at the residence but returned to the residence when he heard about the incident at Columbine. He indicated that he is working as a lot technician at the Ralph Schomp dealership and that his work # is {blank}. When asked about his relationship with Dylan, Byron indicated that he was not very close to Dylan since he moved out in July of 1997. Byron indicated the last time he saw Dylan was on their father’s birthday. When asked about Dylan’s behavior, Byron indicated that Dylan appeared to be somewhat detached and he went on to explain that as a “pissed off teenager.” Byron went on to state that Dylan gave no indication to believe that something like this was going to occur. He indicated that Dylan had knives but to his knowledge had no other weapons.

Byron went on to state that Dylan enjoyed playing games on the internet. He stated that Dylan did wear a black trench coat and that he “acted like he was tough.” When asked about friends, Byron was only familiar with three, Zack, Eric and Nate. Again, Byron indicated that Dylan’s behavior was normal and that again he wore a black trench coat to “act like a bad ass.” Again, Byron indicated that he was not familiar with anything his brother was doing but returned to the house when he had heard about the news about Columbine High School.
