Did Eric and Dylan actually go bowling before the massacre? How did this rumour even come about?

They did not attend and participate in bowling class the morning of the massacre. That’s a misnomer that Micheal Moore perpetuated to sensationalize the title of his movie ‘Bowling for Columbine’.  Also, their scores are not listed on their team roster for bowling class and the teacher indicated they did not attend class. However, based on a few witness testimonies there are some that claim they saw the two that morning outside of the bowling alley. It’s possible that E & D may have drove by the bowling alley one last time as they were spotted in a few places of their typical haunts like for example Blackjack pizza.  On the other hand, witnesses who attended bowling regularly in their class simply may have gotten confused as to which day they actually noticed the boys outside the alley.

Hey I just wanted to say I love that you picked up on the “he describe a dream where it was “Me and Dylan” (almost like a regressed child’s use of grammar)” and how Eric saw Dylan and himself as a “me and you against the world” type of thing. I wish I had more intellectual commentary to lend :( I also want to say I really enjoy your blog because it gives me the inspiration to put into my own words what I’ve gathered but wasn’t able to, and you have so eloquently.

It’s very nice to hear that my interpretation of Eric’s use of language in his dream description resonated for you.  And phew!  I’m glad I’ve managed to come off sounding ‘eloquent’.  lol  I tend to feel like I muddle my words and over describe – so I adore you for saying I’m actually making some semblance of sense! 🙂   And  I’m sure you have plenty of commentary to add.  Don’t at all worry about whether you come across ‘intellectual’ or not. That’ll  just trip you up. Go ahead and jump right in and speak your mind. 🙂   Thank you kindly for dropping in with such inspirational comments. ❤

As many of you know, and some may not, Sue Klebold LOVES art. She is one of the most beautifully artistic people I’ve ever met, and her ability to capture ever essence of real life is magnificent.
You can see many of her drawings, like these hanging in Denver at the School of Botanical Art and Illustration at the Gardens.
This is a photo of Sue and Christine Hubbell on a trip to the Nature and Science Museum to do some still life sketching.

How do you think, did Eric and Dylan not getting sleep at night before NBK affect their performance?

Well, I think Dylan got a tad more sleep than Eric who was just wired and edgy.Eric probably jolted awake the scant few moments he occasionally dropped off.  Whereas, Dylan was already almost surrendered in a state of suicidal serenity.  Oh sure, there was still the jitters that would well up now and again but I think it must’ve been more like he was ready to do This Thing (”we did what we had to do”) and leave this place.  Ironically, Dylan was more ready for this than Eric was. Dylan had resolve and calm. And yeah, I think it definitely affected their performance.  They were running on fumes with adrenaline and nerves keeping them pumped up. Once the bombs failed and their plans tanked they were acting on pure impulse in the moment and making it all up as they went along. Eric was reckless in the library and wasn’t thinking clearly when he knelt down and shot Cassie at close range, with himself too, also at close range to bear the brunt of the receiving end of the vicious kick-back from his sawed off shot gun’s stalk.  By the time they finished the job of randomly murdering students in the library, they were completely spent and exhausted. I’m sure the lack of proper sleep over the last few days contributed to them aimlessly roaming the hallways like haunted zombies, weary, spent and despondent in a lost mission. Lack of sleep and reality bites.

Do you think Dylan would have liked a Christian girl if she made it known that she liked him?

Well, Robyn was one and he didn’t have a problem with her. Probably because she didn’t let her religious preference be known on a daily basis as many of the Christians did at Columbine.  It would come down to getting to know the girl first before knowing she affiliated as Christian rather than vice versa when he would tend to have already formed a biased opinion about her lot.  The girl would need to present as easy going and open minded not rigid and dogmatic which would’ve been a major ‘holier than thou’ turn off.  The last thing he’d want is to be in the company of a girl prosthelytizing her faith and trying to get him to give himself over to the Lord.

I think he decided to “go” to University of Arizona because it’s the state where they filmed NBK… makes you wonder, right. How much that film shaped him. We are surely shaped by what we love, no doubts.

That’s an interesting parallel and quite possibly something he considered with a bit of a “do you believe in Fate?” smirk when he got accepted at UoA – aside from the fact that he liked how vastly different the landscape and weather was in Arizona from Littleton’s changeable climate and serious winters.  Thanks for bringing up this point. 🙂

Do you have a time frame of when the videos : Dylan and Nate driving to Columbine, Eric at Columbine cafeteria talking to Brandi,Dylan in theater class, The roast(Dylan, Zack and Brooks)? . Oh and about the roast, what was that about? Why were they roasting brooks? Did Dylan and Zack also get roasted?

Dylan and Nate in the Morning Ritual  –  I place anywhere between Jan-Feb ‘99

Eric at Columbine – September ‘98

Frankenstein Roast – October ‘98 for Halloween

Brooks directed Frankenstein and played the monster. He sat between, Dylan who did sound design and assisted with Special effects, and Zack, who did lighting. The three roasted the entire cast and crew that put on the production and the great and terrible highlights of everyone.  Yes, Dylan and Zack got roasted too as well as Brooksie.  See here.for some of the impromptu trash-talk between the three dudes

and the video.

I agree with you on that Dylan killing his parents thing. He seemed like he didn’t want any interaction with them that morning by the way Sue explained how he elect in such a hurry and just said “bye.” He was probably upset that she was even awake to acknowledge him leaving and calling for him. He seem like he racing out of the house and trying to leave before anyone was up so he didn’t have to talk to anyone so it would be less harder on him. Probably Eric too

Precisely. Dylan had gotten up extra early that morning – even earlier than his usual god awful early wake time for bowling on Tuesday morning. He was hoping to sneak out into the still twilight dawn hours and entirely avoid his parents altogether. That way he wouldn’t have to deal with any emotional baggage. Instead, in his haste out the door, it was a near miss and mom snagged him with her voice calling out to him.  I’m sure that was part of that snide sort of annoying tone to his voice that Sue recalls so well. His ‘bye’ clipped and shut down because mom had heard him bound down the steps.  He was probably thinking too “oh shit.”  Not easy to ditch your parents and just “poof* ‘disappear’ forever by the next morning.. And he couldn’t afford to be stopped, caught or questioned which would falter his resolve.

Dylan’s caricature of Peggy Dodd, his written response to Brooks’ Owen Meany prompt, his comment about killing a squirrel 2 miles away at rampart range. Dylan had such a funny and wicked sense of humor that is so often overlooked. He genuinely cracks me up! 😆

I believe Eric drew Peggy Dodd because it was one of a few student/staff caricatures doodles grouped with his writings though the two were probably together when they drew those having a good laugh. I’m pretty sure that the sound of the voice in the ‘squirrel’ comment is Eric’s as well.  The Owen Meany is 100% Dyl with the “Coolness God” and Satan opening up a daycare center. Both boys had a very wicked, off-the-cuff, sarcastic sense of humor. 😉

What color was Dylan’s hair? it is supposed to be brown but look’s red. Sometimes it looks dark brown (dylan in theater class) but sometimes light brown and other times red. It is a real mistery to me.

Dylan’s hair is dark blonde which depending on the lighting he’s in, sometimes looked almost a light brown (as in theater class) and at other times in the full sunlight, a strawberry blonde (as in his senior photos taken outdoors). You can see the glints of golden red in it. Some people refer to this particular hair color unflatteringly as “dirty dishwater blonde’. His mother describes him as blonde as well.

PSA

The F A Q is now up on Everlasting Contrast.  🙂

There are two places you can locate the FAQ.

1) Underneath the description of this blog.  It is mobile device friendly too. 🙂

“Dark. Light. God. Lucifer. Heaven. Hell. GOOD. BAD. Yes, the Ever-lasting…”

2) The menu bar on the vertical column

As you can see, it’s far from completed. o.O.  There are plenty of links that are inactive but have a sort of ‘parking space’ for me to add more questions in.I just haven’t had the time to work on it consistently in my not so copious free time.

However, since people have been patiently waiting for it and some of you have politely asked about it’s progress over the course of one too many months, I decided to launch it as-is.

Think of it like a work-in-progress? 😉   Sort of a Phase 1.0 beta test version for all of you to utilize and help me work out the kinks to improve it as a more useful.tool.

So, if you have any comments, questions, feedback to offer, please don’t hesitate to give your input to help slowly transition this into a more useful compendium of E-C.

With in reason, though.  I can’t put up every. single. thing. under the sun about Columbine on the E-C FAQ but only whatever is the most relevant as far as redundantly asked Q’s and first and foremost, related to DBK.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy this partially useful FAQ!  🙂

It is so sad to see Dylan’s battle between good and evil so clearly in everything he left behind. Obviously he talks about it and obsesses over it in his writing, but his actions are just the same… Let people go during the shooting, gave Brooks Eric’s website (knowing it could get him in serious trouble), shortly after that he broke into the van… It’s just crazy to think about. This was not teen angst, he literally was waging a war in his mind.

That’s an astute observation.   You can see the struggle in Dylan’s choices, the wavering, the conflict within him.

Dylan Klebold’s life was one big battle and he gave in, gave up and lost, hoping for a reprieve.

And you’ve got the gist of this blog completely. 🙂

In one of Dylan’s journal entries, he writes that he hopes the girl he has a crush on likes techno. Was it important that any potential girlfriend share the same music preferences as him? Would that have been a sign from fate? Would he have been open to educating a girl on the music he likes and vice versa?

It was on his wishlist but not a make or break.  Good gods no. lol  Dyl could hardly afford to be that picky about a girl entering into his life.  On the off chance that she liked Techno, yeah, sure, looks like the Fates tossed him a bone!   Of course he’d be open to educating her on his favorite music tastes. I’m sure he’d have loved to turn her on to some stuff he dug.  But of course, only if she was open to different types of music and wanting to know everything about her boy’s interests and likes. 🙂 Question is, would he be open to her musical tastes too?  😉   Or at least being able to laugh and mutually joke about what you don’t like about each others tastes. That’s a recipe for a good relationship right there.

You know what fucks me up? Dylan had no idea of knowing if Fate had put the Halcyon Girl in AU. Or in his future job. And if the goddamn girl is still alive, not only did he fucked himself, he also fucked her! Imagine that better halfs exist, well, Dylan, your better half is without better shit because you saw yourself out.

“The
pain multiplies infinitely never stops Yet [?] I’m here, STILL alone, still in pain, so is she.
The thing I have concluded is that fate will decide when we should be together. decided
when our existence started, it should end the same way, with us unknowing, in limbo.
– Dylan Klebold

In this quote written in Jan ‘99, Dylan is essentially saying he is too tired and in perpetual pain to go on any longer.  In his present deteriorating mental state, he is tired of waiting around and existing on a thread daily and feeling like nothing is happening externally to give him the reason or purpose to go on and stay here – to wait/hope/wish for something amazing to happen in his life, specifically, having the girl of his dreams return his feelings and allowing them to be united together.   He has decided to give up and let it all go and that way he doesn’t have to struggle any longer.   He can’t make it happen here and now so he has concluded that Fate will decide when His Love will be with him. He reasons that it is a perfect equal equation because the one who is to be His Love (whether it’s the girl he had been thinking of who doesn’t really know him  – or even someone else that he isn’t even aware of just yet)  came into this existence not knowing one another and they will also leave the earth too, in a state of ‘unknowing’. They will be in limbo for this life time until the next existence when love will find them.  This coping mechanism helped him feel okay about the fact that he would never have the tools or skills to find that girlfriend and to be in a state of love and happiness in this life.

You have to keep in mind too that Dylan was mentally at the end of his rope and was struggling all by himself with these cyclical thoughts. He had no one to reason with him about these things, no sounding board to shake some sense into him and to go on with some resolve to see it through.   And even then, he probably would not have had the capacity at that point in time to believe that waiting, holding out just a little longer and continuing on to see what possibilities were around the bend of his life could have revealed his better half, and even better than the one he had fixated on at that point in time (and wrote the love letter too).   Realistically though, Dylan needed therapy, he needed badly to unload with someone and share his pain while deciding to stick it out and having the courage to continue living.  Because his attempts at a relationship in his present state of mind more than likely would have not been any sort of ‘happily ever after’ out come.  Teenage love..even on into his early twenties – is more often than not  – fleeting enough as it is. A break up would have been absolutely devastating for Dylan . Dylan simply wasn’t “better shit” at that point in time but he could’ve been with time, help, experience and maturity.
