Yes, the Ever-lasting contrast. Since existence has known, the 'fight' between good & evil has continued. Obviously, this fight can never end. Good things turn bad, bad things become good. My fav. contrasting symbol, because it is so true & means so much – the battle between good & bad never ends… Here we ponder on the tragedy of Dylan Klebold.
PSA
If y’all are wondering why I haven’t yet gotten to your ask..
Mea Culpa to all of you. 🙂
It’s just impossible to answer everyone one of you – much as I’d like. So, please don’t at all feel slighted – nothing personal, believe me. I’ll be answering a few Qs here and there but at this point, I really need to make a concerted effort on that FAQ I’ve been procrastinating about. lol
After the FAQ is in place, I’ll just delete all Q’s and I’ll let you know when that happens so you can resend an ask if you’d like. 🙂
Yes, Dylan had two different coats: his Australian duster to which everyone loosely referred to as a ‘trench coat’ as part of the TCM at Columbine, and he also had a traditional leather trench coat.
The Australian waxed cotton duster is single breasted and closes with snaps (no buttons unlike a true trench coat). It also has a storm flap and two large external patch pockets on the hip closing with snaps. The little over the shoulder cape portion is exclusive to the look of dusters but you can remove the cap portion. It also has straps that go around the legs that Dylan chose to wear in HFH as they’re walking down the side of the building. He wore his duster “trench coat” in Hitmen for Hire and also during NBK. The look of the Duster shoulder cape helped to fill out and enhance their scrawny shoulders and made them look puffed up like an intimidating peacock. 🙂
Quite a few of the TCM from ‘96-97 claimed to be the first with the trench coat uniform. Tad Boles, Eric Dutro and Chris Morris all laid claim to being the first few, if not The One that came up with the idea of starting the original trench coat duster aesthetic as part of the TCM. This article claims Tad was the first followed by Chris. Though, I’m sure Chris would claim he was first.
We have no way of knowing exactly who was the very first any more than they did. 😉
Why is it every time I watch this scene, it makes me think of this? 😉
Instant awkward to godlike in zero to 2 seconds flat. Veik on point: “Oooooh..” lol
Messin’ around with PPP tonight and well, I just had to.
The story is that in ‘96, Tad Boles, one of the founding members of the TCM, got his coat on sale at Miller Stockman, a western wear outlet, for $99. Other sources have said the coats were then selling at Sam’s Club – probably where Chris Morris got his, and other TCM purchased from there as well. Dylan (and Eric’s) likely had Outback Trading Stockman Australian oil skin dusters. Some have said they had oil skin leather dusters but they tend to appear to look more like a heavy, waterproof treated cloth material rather than leather in their photos and videos. There isn’t that shiny sheen that leather tends to give off visually. Otoh, it could just be poor nineties quality media.
It’s difficult to tell really for sure. Leather would’ve been considerably more expensive to purchase. Seems likely to me that Dylan’s parents bought him the coat for his birthday in ‘97 as he had it on his hit man haul wishlist 😉 and since he basically worked part time all of three months at Blackjack in ‘97, it’s doubtful he saved up and bought the coat on his own. I would have no doubt that Dyl’s parents would’ve shelled out extra to get him a fine leather duster. 🙂
Dylan’s duster on display at the 2004 Columbine Massacre Exhibit.
Brightened up..
You can see the label inside is rather large and sort of a rusty red color.
Based on his coat characteristics, I’d say his dusters was something similar to this one selling on ebay (but it’s obviously more Rebby sized. 😉 or this one here. Probably not going to be an exact match as the coat styles have likely changed a wee bit since the late nineties. But those would be approximately styles similar in appearance to his duster.
Another thing to consider here is ‘they told us’ isn’t the same as ‘they told him’. Even though Brooks was on the outs with Eric, he still shared similar circles of friends. For example, Zack was friends with Brooks and Dylan. So, to reiterate what I said in my last post on this: It’s possible Brooks was sitting near Zack or Nate or others in their outcast group and so Brooks just happened to be having lunch at that grouping of tables and happened to see the two walk over and so over heared them ‘telling us’ that particular day According to Brooks in No Easy Answers, Eric and Dylan didn’t become closer friends until working at Blackjack which would’ve been summer-fall ‘97. Eric and Dylan were not devolved enough in their forged friendship as early on as Oct ‘96 to entertain the idea of shooting human beings with bb guns. They simply hadn’t progressed to that point yet. Rebel Missions house pranks were as far as they’d gone Anyway, you’re entitled to your opinion, of course, but that’s my feeling about it.
I was wondering which post are you referencing? Your question sounds related to thedragonrampant’s recent post from today actually. 😉 According to Brooks this incident happened Halloween Junior year (Oct ‘97) which would make sense in that Eric and Dylan were becoming tighter, a more exclusive friends by the fall of Junior year since having both worked at Blackjack together (combined with the fact that Dylan lost Zack to Devon by summer of ‘97). These two were solidified enough in their mutual violent tendencies that they would think nothing of taking pot shots at kiddies with a bb gun for the amusement of it. It’s interesting that these boys were doing such things four months prior to the van theft arrest in Jan ‘98. They just kept escalating and pushing the envelope until their luck ran out and they finally got caught. Brooks mentions to the effect that the two bragged and laughed about targeting Trick or Treaters over lunch. You’re correct that Brooks was no longer on speaking terms with Eric and minimal at best, with Dylan at this point in time. Perhaps he was in earshot in the commons at a table close enough to where they were? There could really be no other explanation for them to be sitting directly with Brooks since he claims in his book that he was in the midst of a cold war with Eric and more or less with Dylan by association end of ‘97.
Yes, definitely his parents – that we know for certain as Sue had mentioned having read her son’s writings in media and book interviews. I’d think it likely that at least some of his friends have read his journal. It must been especially tough for Zack. He talked with Dylan almost every night by phone and knew some of what Dylan was going through but then to actually be privy to his friend’s journal and see how it actually was for him. How isolating and painful it was for Dylan and how jealous he was of Zack finding his ‘soul mate’ when he could never find his own. Must have deeply saddened Zack.
Imagine Dyl’s long, spindly fingers kneading and punching the floury pizza dough and then tossing and spinning the pie into the air with those magnificent, deft hands. With an appetite like Dyl’s he probably made each pizza pie to his own taste by piling on the toppings – just intuitively grabbing and sprinkling on generous portions while listening to Rammstein blasting in the background.🍕 You’d get a good hearty pizza from that foodie of dude. 😋 Eric, otoh, was more of a picky eater so he probably was more sparing, selecting more exact-portion toppings unless, of course, it was pepperoni and green peps, then he’d go a little overboard. hehe. I bet if you picked up a pizza from each you could easily tell them apart.
Aww, thanks, Dyl. 😏 You know, your spelling isn’t so great these days for being up in the Halcyons as long as you’ve been but none of that really matters –the way it shouldn’t. It’s the sentiment that counts. ❤️
I largely think that Jeffco wanted to instill the fear in Chris Lau by insinuating that the boys were plotting revenge on their own workplace in addition to the school. It was a tactic too, a way to get the managers and staff off the premise so they could check and make sure the location was safe. When, realistically, had Eric and Dylan rigged their workplace or shot up anyone there, it would’ve blown their concerted plans too early on before their attack of the school. So, the cops would’ve likely been on their asses pretty quickly by the time they headed off to the school. The diversion bomb that they’d set to go off near the field/fence area nearby some homes, was supposed to do the trick to lure the cops attention away from their ‘Ground Zero’ so they could carry out ‘Operation Columbine’. So, there is no concrete evidence that the two plotted to attack Blackjack other than a coworker waiting at the locked shop earlier in the morning and then noticing Dylan pull up in the lot. Chris Lau, along with co-manager, Jason Secor, only took over that Blackjack location for a month or so prior to 4/20. And even though Eric had some differences with the new management style, it was mostly just that he was used to their previous alcoholic boss, Bob Kirgis, allowing the two pretty much free reign of the shop to manage it when he was checked-out and do whatever the hell they liked including partying and drinking on the roof and setting off fireworks and dry ice bombs out back. Basically new management actually managed the place and so Eric likely disliked the fact that his new bosses had more of a handle on running the shop than Kirgis ever did, Lau and Secor even promoted Eric, giving him a raise on April 16th which was the very last day the boys worked. The boys even both received cash advance (guess for what? ;)) they’d requested which seems to insinuate that they were trusted enough by management to get those. No, I really don’t think Eric hated Blackjack even if he wasn’t especially liking the management all that much and adjusting to Lau’s rules. He liked the Blackjack crew and had fond memories there. He spoke on the one Basement Tape vid in fondness of the ‘Blackjack crew’. So, I don’t think there was enough of a grudge there for either of them to want to decimate their place of work or attack their co-workers.
What we do know is that Dylan and Eric were driving around a lot on the morning of 4/20, going to Eric’s house and some gas stations between the two of them, driving here, there and everywhere – so that by the time they were actually scheduled to start the attack, Dylan was rushing his BMW into the parking lot of CHS just about 4-5 minutes before the attack nearly running into Chad Laughlin’s car. I doubt they had much time to ‘chill’ as Dylan had factored in on his plans for the morning. It was as if they were visiting places for the very last time to acknowledge where they spent their lives and had fairly good memories and to say their last silent ‘goodbyes’ even if it was just pulling into Blackjack for a minute or two to stare. They weren’t at bowling class the morning off – as in, they didn’t attend class – however, a couple of witnesses said they saw the two in the parking lot briefly. So, in between NBK prep, it’s conceivable that they may have popped by bowling on the way to the school to say their final adios there too.
Jeffco seems to have instilled enough fear in Jason Secor that to this day, they are of the mind that Eric and Dylan also plotted to attack Blackjack prior to their attack on Columbine. (That interview with Secor can be found here.) It just does not seem plausible that they’d start their plot of destruction prior to their true attack location thereby attracting attention too early on. This is even why Eric let Brooks go. They had a schedule and a timeline and wanted to stick to it..even though what actually happened is that they were running super late that morning. I would say that was due to their second thoughts and sentimentality by driving by places to say goodbye.
Yep, you got it. Australian Dusters come with leg straps so the bottom flap of the coat wouldn’t blow up at you while on horseback, etc. I detail that more in this post here 🎃
(Taken from the account Brooks Brown gave in his book about Eric and Dylan talking about shooting at kids on Halloween with a BB gun.)
“What about the one in the clown costume, Reb?” Dylan said as he looked down the barrel of his BB gun. “He looks pretty pathetic.”
Eric peered down from the top of the house, legs drawn up to his chest, arms crossed, staring down at the children as they passed by. It had been his idea to take shots at the kids as they were out trick-or-treating, waiting until it was completely dark to get to their vantage point on the roof. What started out as an idea for a rebel mission now quickly bored him. He wished they were inside, watching a movie or doing anything else. It was so cold and quiet. Being up so high meant they weren’t close enough to hear the conversations of the people they were taking shots at, which meant they couldn’t hear their confusion after they were hit, only the victims looking around for a moment before their parents told them to keep going.
This is probably pretty much how it was too. Beware the Terrible Two 😈 💀Trick or Treat in Oct ‘98 was a scary affair for the kiddies. lol
Happy Hallow’s Eve 🎃🕸👻 served up wickedly by darkmistyday.
Dylan’s Mandala
The Sanskrit meaning of mandala means “circle”. The circle is a symbol of perfection, eternity, unity and completeness/wholeness. It is a cosmic diagram reminding us of our relation to infinity, extending beyond and within our bodies and minds. Mandalas are incredibly versatile and can personify any number of meanings for the viewer. The meaning each mandala holds is limited only by the creator and the observer. Mandalas are circular designs symbolizing the notion that life is never ending. Many mandalas have spiritual significance to an individual or group of individuals.
Merged Symbolism:
Foundation 1
Polarity & Conflict ~ The Everlasting Contrast triple-barred cross
+
Center Layer 2
Fate ~ Kolovrat Slavic Sun Wheel or Dylan’s barbed wheel representing “Fate”
+
Top Layer 3
Endless journey ~ The Downward Spiral of infinincy or ‘DS’
Still using cowardly anon I see, along with the same ol’ passive-aggressive, chip-on-the-shoulder drivel. I rate you as predictable and boring. lol ‘Less than half a minute’ woohoo. Good on you considering your addiction. But the fact of the matter is, you still could not resist coming back to my blog and paying me attention.
You know what the say about people like you, hm? if you’re hatin’ on me and you’re STILL watching everything I do, you are a jelly fan.
A crash course in Dylan’s self-created vocabulary with definitions 🙂
