Hello! I read somewhere that Dylan was inclined to feminism. Do you know the source for this piece of information?

I’ve never really seen a legit media source that specifically verifies as such. I do think that based on how Dylan was raised within his liberal family culture, his parents, primarily Sue, likely raised and taught him to treat women respectfully and to view them as equals. I guess the best source we have is the source himself.  Though he’s not necessarily a reliable one at that. 😉  Dylan never specifically states unequivocally that he considers himself to be ‘a feminist’. I somehow doubt given the macho male circle he hung out in that he’d ever openly volunteer as such. His  ‘hate list’ which he was brainstorming for his future website, mentions:  “people that are assholes to chicks” and, interestingly enough (after my last post on this topic), “sexists” – even though we know he more than likely did partake in at least some sexist comments while in the company of Eric and friends.  As for ‘people who are assholes to chicks’,  well, Dylan was just that  upon a few recorded occasions in gym class. Oopsy! And what about those ‘racists’? I think I’ll just quit while I’m ahead here because both boys had a knack for hypocrisy… Oh well, best laid intentions for a seventeen year old dude,  😉

were eric and dylan good bowlers

I’d say Eric and Dylan were unique,

unconventional

bowlers?  So, the adjectives ‘good’ or ‘accomplished’ don’t really apply..at least, not in the traditional sense of the  sport. Both had their own patented zany bowling techniques that generally made a powerful impact and momentum so a potentially higher chance of slamming a strike and knocking all the pins with sheer force.

The two bowled in strange ways, as if shotputting or pitching the balls; this resulted in peers teasing them for their odd behavior.

Dylan’s generally style was to grab the ball and pitch it over head as if he were playing baseball. I’d imagine he’d probably splintered the wood on the lane from the sheer impact. 😉

Eric’s style was odd but effective: he would pick the lightest ball in the place, an eight-pounder, then heave it from his chest down the alley. It was loud but he got strikes.

If I could time travel, I’d make sure to drop in on one of their Friday midnight sessions of Rock n’ Bowl or witness the two goofballs in action  in morning bowling class just for the ridiculous hilarity of it all.

Here’s a few of their morning bowling class scores.

Harris was smiling, rolling strikes and trading happy “high fives” with other teens at their weekly Friday night bowling party. Harris grew more unhappy and distant at school, friends say. But at the Friday night bowling parties, he would relax and come alive. “Rock ‘N Bowl,” as it’s called, was his social life. At Belleview Lanes, 16 students would crowd together on four lanes to bowl and smoke cigarettes.

They kept score on the electronic monitors overhead and the team of Harris, Klebold and Morris often won.

“Eric bowled like an idiot,” Kim Carlin recalled, giggling.“He’d throw it,”

Sara Arbogast said. “A lot of people laughed because it worked and he would get strikes and stuff”.

”Sometimes Eric and Dylan shouted “Sieg Heil!” when they made strikes.

A classmate said about Dylan’s explosive temper:

“He did have a lot of anger, but he hid it most of the time. One time in bowling class, he got so pissed he slammed his fist down on the ball return. It freaked me out.”.

“Dylan would get so mad when he didn’t get strikes,” Jeni said. “One time he hit the bowling return machine really hard.”

Would Dylan have liked Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco or Sleeping at Last? Their lyrics sound like stuff he would write

Would Dylan have liked them?  I’d say no on all three. The first two would definitely not be something he’d listen to (imo).  Some of Sleeping at Last’s stuff, like Turning Pages for example, embodies his romantic ideals, that longing to be in suspended in a state of true, pure love with that certain girl that was written in the stars just for him.  But Sleeping at Last would’ve been considered tooo mushy for a guy such as himself to have listened to on his own or worse yet, gotten caught listening to by dude friends.  No, I think that music is more like something his girl might like to play while in his company to set the mood.  I think the extent of Dylan’s ‘romantic’ music was ‘Beautiful’ by Smashing Pumpkins when he probably sat in his room and day dreamed about spending time doing ‘everything not necessarily anything together’ with his love.

What future could Dylan and Eric have if they didn’t go through with their plans.

Personally, I don’t think their lives would have been great.
Dylan- I think going to Arizona University would have been a bad case for him. None of his friends would be there and it would probably take him long to open up enough to make new friends there.
Studying at a University requieres a lot more organization and discipline than studying at a school and Dylan lacked these things- especially during episodes of depression. Even if he generally would have taken great joy into the stuff he was learning, with every rush of depression he probably would have completely lost focus and interest towards his topics.
I don’t really see him surviving College to be honest. Suicide would be a likely outcome or maybe even a shooting- but without Eric it would probably be a different sort of attack. Not much planning, no bombs or distractions. Just a moment of snapping with a few people shot and a quick rush to suicide.

Eric is harder to predict. He had that ability to appear normal which makes us think that if X and Y might have been different, he would have been a better outcome. But I think that Eric was in fact not normal at all- he was fucked up to the core and no outside circumstances would have changed that.
I have a hard time seeing him in the military for example. Eric following rules, respecting authorities and obeying order? 24/7 a day? Not quite what this guy liked, even though its possible that his love for guns, war and violence would have make him tolerate all of this. But that would not have make his mental health issues gone away.
If he had decided to go for computer programming and applied for a university, he would have gone nuts. The open, flexible structure and even more the whole culture of Universities would have make him a boiling pot of hate. I mean Jesus, imagine him sitting in lectures and having people around him enganging in discussions with the professor with everyone trying to sound smart and sophisticated, when he was the only one who believed this term was applying to. Imagine him coming across social justice activists on campus- he would have become the human equivalent to Pazzie.

This is so completely wrong that I don’t even know where to start…

everlasting-contrast, would you mind helping out with this one, haha.

Im so tired of being a bitch, but I can’t handle this completely inaccurate information.

I think Dylan going off to Tucson would have been a great thing for him. A fresh start. He could have made new friends, met new girls. Dylan didn’t lack the skills that you speak of, he just didnt apply them. Most likely due to the depression he suffered from. Dylan never would have went on a shooting rampage by himself. Also, to assume that Dylan’s mind state would have stayed the same after leaving Littleton, is not okay. He could have gotten to Arizona and completely turned his whole life around. Depression isn’t a terminal illness. People do get better.

Eric always excelled in school. He never had a problem participating in class, and being involved in discussions, in fact, he really enjoyed it. I also don’t agree that he was “fucked up to the core”. We don’t know exactly what he suffered with, so for you to claim that as fact, is wrong. You can’t say that a change in circumstances wouldn’t have helped him. Do you have a PhD? That may have been just what he needed. I don’t think it is fair for you to say he would have “went nuts” in college either. Eric always enjoyed school and took pride in his grades.

This is always a really interesting hypothetical debate but please don’t use my own opinion as leverage over someone else. It’s not really fair to put me in in the middle of this since I didn’t really initiate my own participation in this discussion of my own volition.  I’m going to call Switzerland here since what you’re essentially debating is really all just conjecture anyway. Both your points are equally valid to my own or anyone else’s. This is a future that never happened and so all we can do is guess as to what resonates best for each of us.  Even the boys’ themselves couldn’t have told you how their own futures beyond Columbine would’ve turned out. Ultimately, it’s just as murky as our own best guesses.  Yoda, however, said it best. 🙂

Do you know exactly what things Dylan and Eric said that were sexist? Thank you!

Here’s a few. A couple legitimately recorded on the Basement Tapes and the other, is supposed accounts witnessed by Columbine students.

Excerpts from the Basement Tapes:

“Yes, moms stay home. That’s what women are supposed to f—ing do.”
– Harris, on the role of women.

“F—ing make me dinner, bitch.” – Harris, on what he would say to a woman.

—

Harris: “Shut the fuck up, Nick, you laugh too much! And those two girls sitting next to you,
they probably want you to shut the fuck up, too! Jesus! Rachel and Jen .. . and … whatever.”

Klebold: “I don’t like you, Rachel and Jen, you’re stuck up little bitches, you’re fucking
little . .. Christian, Godly little whores!”

Harris: Yeah … “I love Jesus! I love Jesus!” — shut the fuck up!”

Klebold: “What would Jesus do? What the fuck would I do?”

*Klebold acts like he’s shooting the camera with his hand, with sound to accompany it.*

and..

Excerpts copied from a Columbine Yahoo Group that was created long ago circa September 1999 that paid “tribute” to the Columbine killers. These types of yahoo groups are either dormant or long since defunct but the incidences were captured of what alleged Columbine witnesses described that they saw/heard Eric and Dylan say in the school.  I think it’s credible these types of exchanged happened with these two as part of their behavior of a ‘pack mentality’. When the two got together, or also in the company of other dudes, they acted out and behaved badly to show off. Yet, by themselves in the company of girls, they behaved themselves and were subdued and more or less respectful gentlemen. Unless..they didn’t like a certain girl -or guy – for a certain reason of course. 😉

For anyone interested, I found a couple of quotes from one of the groups a while back that I saved. I can’t remember what group these are from. I’m sorry. One is friends with someone who went to school with Harris and Klebold (I’ll call her girl) and the other is that friend (boy). I highly doubt either account is still active but I won’t post the usernames regardless. I’m copy-pasting so forgive the spelling and awkward structure.

”..eric and dylan were standing at the very end of a hallway. and they were standing there talking to two other guys. one of the guys was complaining about his girlfriend [troubles he was having with her, fights, etc] and they were talking about it and eric said ”these bitches need to learn to stay in their place”. and they nodded their agreement. and then he went on to say how the world was fucked up about that now because in the 1500’s women knew what they were supposed to do- clean, fuck, and cook. one of the guys said something about having kids and he said oh yea and keeping the shitty human race going. this was a while before the shootings and they all laughed of course..” (girl)

”..he also told me of another incident which in a way highlights their attitude towards women—-eric and dylan and a few other guys were watching theses two blonde girls one day. they were standing talking to each other. one was sucking on a lollipop as she talked to the other one. eric called to them and he said ”hey i’ll give you something to suck on” and made an obscene gesture involving his crotch.. the girls were all pissed off and they stomped away. dylan and the other guys didn’t say anything , but they hooped and yelled.he said that eric was a perv a lot of the time.” (girl)

”..i had no classes with them. they were really cool guys. eric was very funny. dylan was nice and polite. where you saw one you always , almost saw the other one. they were really close friends. they were always talking to each other. sometimes they would carry out these long convos in german. eric was very forceful about some things. dylan was too in ways but not as much as eric. they always tried to defend themselves against assholes, but sometimes it was just too much for them. people in the caf would throw things at their table;say mean things. they were humilated but angry. some people liked them but most thought they were weirdos. dylan’s feelings were easy hurt. dylan was so big physically he looked a little scary but he was nice. erics sense of humor was sarcastic a lot of the time. they talked about girls a lot. eric was kind of a perv. but he was nice to girls most of the time.” (boy)

”..one time they were talking about that David Koresh guy. they were saying that he had had the perfect setup. they were talking about how cool it was that he had all those wives and kids. and they said they wished they could have the same thing. eric said it would be awesome to have all those women under your complete control. and dylan agreed. eric said that you can have all the children to let the world know that you were master of your domain and dylan said yeah. eric said he would give his children AND his wives a hard smack on the ass if they got out of line .and dylan said he would do the same thing. they talked about how cool it would be to live in a huge house with all their wives. but eric said they would have a much better place than koresh had. that he wouldn’t live in a place like that. they talked about all the cool guns he had and that it would be great to make your living selling guns like he did. they just seemed very fascinated by his lifestyle.”

In Dylan’s first diary entry where he wrote about his problems quote and quote “about driving, & my family, about friends & doings with them….” Why was he worried about driving? This entry was in ’97. Was he being pressured to drive or something?

“.. & thinking … about the asshole in gym class, how he worries me, about driving, & my family, about friends & doings with them, about girls I know (mainly & ) how I know I can never have them, yet I can still dream . ..”

Dylan’s first journal entry was dated March 31, 1997. He wrote it at the age of 15. Dylan obtained his drivers license in October ‘97 just after he turned 16 the month prior on September 11th. When he says

‘about driving’

he likely seems to be ruminating on learning to drive, what it will be like for him to drive a car and the sense of both anxiety and excitement, the freedoms and responsibility that goes along with that.

Whenever I hear the song “Mad World” sung by Gary Jules, I think of Dylan’s years before the massacre. It perfectly epitomizes my feelings of my high school experience as an outcast as well, I have a hard time not bursting into tears hearing it. I think that song embodies him much more than any NIN or similar band.

Yes, that song is like the emo anthem for many teenager’s high school experiences –  that sense of despondent disconnect and despair, and of course, it resonates like the perfect fit of a glove for the God of Sadness himself.

What porn websites did Dylan go to? Or did he watch tapes? Did his parents know he watched porn?

image

Well, here’s one he went to.  (p.s. it doesn’t work anymore)

In the late nineties, their really wasn’t any streaming quality videos like there is now.  Dylan had a super slow speed 56K modem connections which was way better than the 14.4 modem but not by a whole lot. He likely got porn from either FTP sites or the primordial file sharing pirate sites where you could download  MP3, movies and yes, porn.

This was right at the cusp of the ultimate, infamous file sharing site, Napster, which came out in Fall of ‘99 and was a bit faster than the previous type of file sharing. The dudes totally missed out on stealing a shitton of music and media files from Napster and getting away with it like so many did. Though, I suspect Dylan was already doing something similar as he’d mentioned in his yearbook entry to Nate Dykeman: “I am the God of the MP3s!!!!”  Even if Dylan was downloading music and media files, it still would’ve taken him foooorever to download that full ‘porno’ movie. He also would’ve watched VHS tapes gotten with friends at video stores or obtained copies made by friend of a friend. And of course, there was plenty of photo based porn websites like the fetish related one he jotted down above. I’m sure his parents assumed he was playing video games and listening to music all the time in his room. Parents tend not to want to dwell on what exactly their teenage son might be doing in his bedroom with the door closed all the time. 😉  I doubt they suspected though I’m sure his dad wouldn’t have been super fussed since his dad probably secretly consumed sexual imagery any way he could when he was Dylan’s age, back in the day. And mom, well, she just wasn’t really allowed much in Dyl’s domain except maybe to put his clean, folded clothing on the foot of his bed..where there was hidden cat hairs on his bunched up blanket. lol
