I feel like maybe somewhere deep down Sue knew Dylan smoked and figured he’d just do it anyway and hide it if he confronted him. You gotta pick the hills to die on

According to Sue in “A Mother’s Reckoning”, Bryon was a heavy smoker and was chain smoking outside their house after all hell broke loose on 4/20.  I tend to think that Sue and Tom banked on Dylan as permanently being that “golden child”, the sensible, level headed one of their two boys. Oddly, even after the van theft arrest and some scraps in school, they still had their rose colored glasses on about him.  So, I tend to think Sue gave Dylan the benefit of the doubt on quite a regular basis out of habit and quite injudiciously. That’s why Dylan got a way with acting like the good and perfect son at home while simultaneously doing things he knew they would mostly likely not approve of behind their backs.  He knew his parents already didn’t like what Byron was doing with the “drugs” which was essentially pot.  I’m sure they also disliked Bryon’s choice in taking up smoking cigarettes too but he just kind of did what he pleased and so he was the son that got shit regularly from his parents, not Dylan.  So Dylan trusted that they would not see him in a bad light, yes, even when Sue smelled blatant cigarette smoke on him; he brushed it off with an “I’m not that stupid!” retort and that was that.   Dylan rested his case and he steered clear from his mom’s potential third degree confrontation *snap* just like that.

Sue probably felt shitty for even being suspicious about her good boy.  So, personally I think a part of Sue wondered at it but mainly she went into denial mode and simply trusted Dylan’s word because she wanted to believe his track record would always be perfect.

hiya do you know where i can buy dylan’s aol t shirt?? lov u

I tend to think Dyl would be shaking his head pretty nonplussed that people are asking where they can buy his personal crude and hokey AoLeet d00d! shirt. Sort of the way his voice goes up a slight notch asking “salt and pepper?” in the Breakfast Run vid, like “what? why would ya wanna do that?”   Life is stranger than fiction it would seem. haha

Well, you know, Hot Topic is not going to carry that type of homespun cute but crap shirt. You basically have to do as Dyl did and have a go at using a customizing shoppe to make one yourself. These days, Zazzle would be the place to go. 🙂  Just make sure it’s a dark green like his.   ❤ you too.

When was this alleged date with Kristen? I would have thought that a date with a girl he really liked would have been significant enough for him to document or bring up his mood a little bit.

As I’d mentioned in the previous post, the supposed date happened sometime in the spring of ‘99 so fairly close to the massacre. Keep in mind though, by January ‘99, Dylan had given himself over to NBK. Kristen and Dylan’s alleged, rumored dating could’ve been just that – a “good time” amongst friends since they already knew each other from mutuals in the TCM.

The other thing is, in Dylan’s suicidal/love letter, he mentions that the girl he intends the letter for doesn’t know him very well enough other than the two having worked together on a class project in first semester. So, Dylan may not have even considered Kristen The One he dreamed of at that point in time and just went out with her and they had a great time in doing so. Friends then assumed “hey, those two are dating” like it was a serious thing. Sue mentioned that the girl he was infatuated with and wrote the love letter to didn’t even know him at all. So, it’s a case of either her assuming that the girl didn’t know him or she knew the girl’s name from an unredacted version of his love letter and contacted this girl only to discover the girl really had no idea who her son was. We really don’t know..
