Dylan smoked cigars and cigarettes from ‘96-97 time period. In the Diversion file he volunteered mentioning that he tried marijuana at age 15, once again, with his brother Bryon, in August ‘97, because he ‘was curious.’

His take on drugs in his diversion file: ‘it was a waste of everything. definitely not worth it.’

Not much more to say here other than the fact that Dylan smoked and drank before he got caught for the van theft in Jan ‘98 and entered into the diversion program March ‘98, He continued to do so after.  Dyl smoked cigarettes behind his parents back like many of his peers did in the late ‘90s – probably until the habit was so great that he could no longer hide the scent from his parents.

The first time Dylan tried alcohol was at 15, ‘with his brother, at home, was curious to see what it was like’.  The last time was two months
ago (based on the diversion file that would mean Jan ‘98),  ‘my house, vodka’ and ‘before that none for about 3 months (on & off)’.  Dylan downplayed his drinking habit in the diversion file and volunteered that he: ‘doesn’t like the taste or effects of alcohol, and said he decided to stop because it “wasn’t worth it”.  Dylan thinks that drinking alcohol is okay as long as it is in moderation
 ‘I am careful with it’.

What did Dylan do about his drinking?   He drank. 😉 

Dylan mentions in his diversion file that he was closer to his dad ‘better communicator, closer’.  This may have been because Dylan’s father worked from home running his mortgage real estate business and so he was there when Dylan got home from school.   There would have been a bit more bonding time between them during the weekdays doing some father/son things together like fixing up Tom’s old BMWs in the late afternoon. Whereas Dylan’s mom worked near Denver which is about a 26 mile commute from their home.  By the time Sue got home, Dylan would’ve be upstairs shut inside his bedroom playing video games most of the evening.  I believe that when Dylan was younger, he used to go over to Brooks’ house and play video games and wait until his mom finally got home.  At any rate, the fact that Tom had more time around Dylan meant that they had established, by default, a bit of a closer relationship than he had with his mom.  You’re welcome. 🙂 

Dylan stocked a miniature refrigerator that had been a 17th birthday gift from the family with candy bars and Dr Pepper.

I think Dyl preferred action flcks especially southwestern gunslinger style. Though, Vampires would’ve been the right combination of his brand of action combined with horror.  Horror seemed be more of Eric’s thing;  Dyl seems to have preferred psychological suspense/thrillers like Lost Highway.

However, this was either a kid that Dylan didn’t know very well nor associate with or maybe disliked.  The fact that it’s done in front of a girl makes him all the more prickly as if they are ganging up on him and is a joke at their expense.  

If you look closely, he gives a very weighted glance at the duster dude and then notices how the girl is standing their amused by his reaction.

Dylan clearly took offense and has his hackles up. The flick of his hand over his duster coat flap says ‘wtf? how dare you?’ and the accusatory glare clearly warns ‘don’t touch. never again’. 

I think they were just trying to be silly and Dylan was so used to being bullied and tortured that his automatic reaction is to think someone is trying to mess with him

i remember reading a while ago that the guy told dylan that he had chalk or some dust on coat and brushed it off in a teasing/joking manner and dylan looks at it and laughs and says dont worry about it or something like that…:)

To me, Dylan is still looking at the kid very aggressively, even as he is starting to turn and walk away. Dyl wasn’t playing and he wasn’t being nice about it. You can totally tell he was NOT laughing.

We’re on the exact same page here truercrimejunkie77. ^^ The paraphrased description of said ‘source’ doesn’t jibe either since Dylan neither looks to be laughing nor mouthing anything verbally back to the kid. Dylan’s body language appears to first look startled and then greatly offended. It was a defensive posturing, and his expression one of warning to them that he didn’t appreciate having his space touched nor didn’t find what they were doing funny. And while I get that from their perspective, they appeared to be light heartedly messing around randomly selecting to dust Dylan as he breezed by and without any specific intent to pick on him but just amusing themselves out of boredom on the stage, but the fact is from Dylan’s own pov, he didn’t take it that way at all.  Dylan reacted knee-jerk negatively because he was so conditioned to respond on the defense with peers at Columbine;  he was used to being harassed or mocked for his looks or style of dress or the group he hung out with.  I doubt that this is a valid source for my reasons stated above and also, simply because we can’t take a look at the link from said blog and verify it as legit. 🙂

Strangely, the record of property items returned to Dylan’s dad do not include Dylan’s shades, specifically, the list of items returned from his body to the Klebold’s in 2003 do not mention his shades. There was a pair of sunglasses [#6017] found in Dylan’s car but they were not his trademark shades but instead, Bollé sports sunglasses.  If Dylan removed his shades during the massacre he could’ve done one of two things: pocketed them in his trench coat or jettisoned them on the school grounds. However, if they were in his trench, they would have been accounted for as personal belongings returned to Tom Klebold.  If they were located on the school grounds you would think they would’ve been linked to him but this does not appear to be the case.. None of Dylan’s personal affects that he put in a pile were listed as having been returned to the Klebolds only noted as being found when they removed his body – which is interesting that Jeffco would omit recording and releasing such items of personal importance to his parents..

Nothing stupid at all about the comment. 🙂 It’s true that Dylan did break his sunglasses but he fixed them by taping the temple area together with what appears to be black electrical tape.   Given the long length of his hair in that video of him behind Blackjack, it’s very possible he broke them not long before the shooting.  Dylan, and Eric, were both reported to have been wearing their sunglasses during the shooting on that bright, warm spring day.  Quite a few eyewitnesses mention it.   

You could speculate that his trademark shades ended up outside somewhere and someone took them?  Personally, I tend to think Dylan just pocked them in his trench at some point during the massacre and his parents have the shades as they were in his trench but never mentioned as returned. 

The fact that Jeffco did not mention retrieving the sunglasses might have been one of many oversights on their part. They were careless with quite a bit.  Same applies to his personal pile of items that don’t seem to have been recorded and returned to his parents. I highly doubt Jeffco would’ve mentioned the contents of the pile upon retrieving his body yet never returning a silver pocket watch (hello? this potentially been a family heirloom), their son’s earring and black beaded cloth necklace.
