If I remember correctly Dylan’s stomach scar was not due to self harm. When it comes to Eric I don’t think he harmed himself. He was focused more on harming others.

Dylan’s stomach scar is not self-harm related but more likely a surgical one.

Some people believe Eric self-harmed and others do not. There is no way to really verify it. You can read the autopsy files and decide for yourself based on the type of marks found present and noted by the coroner.

Actually, you’re mistaken. Dylan was described as “hyper, loud, energetic” by his own bosses at Black Jack Pizza. We even have evidence from a coworker who worked with both Eric and Dylan who stated himself that Dylan was more of the loud, and hyperactive guy at work, while Eric was more reserved, and quiet at work.

You’re correct that there were a couple of accounts where people perceived Dylan and Eric’s temperments almost transposed from the typical perception of the two with Eric seeming the more quieter of the two.

The second owner, Chris Lau, became operator of Blackjack on March 8, 1999. He managed Dylan and Eric for roughly six weeks, give or take, since they worked 3-5 nights per week for about 4-5 hours per night. The boys’ last work date was April 16th and they received a total of three payroll checks under Lau. Lau described Klebold as “hyper”, loud, energetic, a good worker, punctual, no problems (Dylan was also about to die so there may be a reason for his amped up, hyper-active, devil-may-care behavior towards the end.)

In timeline context, the supposed incident between Michelle Hartsough and Dylan occurred under Bob Kirgis’ ownership when Dylan eventually quit his first stint with Blackjack latter part of ‘97/early ‘98. Kirgis managed Dylan a longer period of time and did not describe Dylan as Lau did.

To your knowledge has a Columbiner ever trespassed onto the Klebold property, or harassed them in any way? (Not talking about letters or sending mail). In Far From the Tree which was published years ago, Tom mentions Dlyan’s ‘groupies’. Susan seems to respond to letters, I’m just wondering how far the “groupies” would go to get closer to him. There are creepy photos of the house obviously taken by people who have snuck up on the rocks. I wonder if they have good perimeter security.

I’ve never heard of anyone – Columbiners, “Dylan’s groupies”; or whatnot – being so bold as to rudely transpass directly beyond their fence and stalking their property. Thankfully. I tend to think the Klebolds do not have security on the grounds perimeter of their property. In other words, their fence is simply a fence with security box at the entrance to allow them in (I recall at one time it was broken). I tend to think that their philosophy is that they extend a level of trust in hopes to receive respect of such trust from people passing by to not transpass on their property – same as any other home. However, that’s not to say that they don’t have security and cameras directly on their house as well as mirrored, reflecting windows. I have never seen a case of anyone posting close-up photos of their home or their yard on tumblr or elsewhere but I’d definitely have second hand chagrin if that were the case. 😒

Do you think that the two of them, especially Dylan felt any guilt after they were done killing others. I mean after their adrenaline went done and they had to finish the job by offing themselves. Do you think if Dylan had lived and ended up in prison he would feel remorse and regret. No matter how much they tried to stop themselves from feeling human emotions they were not sociopaths.

Dylan and Eric were pretty exhausted to the point of being completely spent after they felt ‘done’ with the shootings. They were also kind of what you might call ‘comfortably numb’ and divorced from the whole thing. You could say they were each having their own separate kind of out-of-body experience so the hurt and pain they’d just inflicted on others was the farthest thing on their minds. For Dylan, none of what he’d just done mattered anymore because soon he’d be gone from this hell hole world. He was in a mentally and emotionally disconnected state that no longer had the energy to feel anything for others, for the victims – it was just himself and his own intense pain staring him in the face and that need to find release – to escape and find freedom through the doorway that was death.

Had Dylan ended up in a correctional prison as a minor, and had he survived his own suicidal impulses within confinement, I do think Dylan would have been more than capable of feeling remorse and regretful for the pain and suffering he’d inflicted on others. It would take a lot of the right sort of consistent, intense therapy along with his own maturation and passage of time to reflect but it would be possible for him to reform and attach connected feelings and a sense of responsibility in what he’d done. Prison for a juveniles or adults is no walk in the park so no happy ending would’ve been guaranteed but as far as feeling remorse for what he’d done, I would say, yes, Dylan was not beyond fully understanding and assuming a sense of responsiblity in what he’d done as a apathic, mentally ill kid.

No offense I totally love and respect your blog and everything but I just think if Eric was accused of hitting a girl at work you wouldn’t question it

No worries. And maybe so? However, Michelle is the only person that claimed as such and none of her other coworkers supported her claim against Dylan. Plus, why would she keep such a thing to herself? If she was a supervisor who had experienced what could easily be categorized as physical abuse at the hands of her co-worker and subordinate then why didn’t she report him to the owner? If she had told the owner or any other manager, Dylan would’ve surely been fired. Kim Carlin, who was a good friend of Eric’s, quit Blackjack because as stated in the 11K, she did not get along with Michelle Hartsough. That in itself says a lot right there about Michelle as a person let alone a supervisor. It’s easy for Michelle to claim anything against a deceased boy who could no longer speak for himself and also suddenly had a very bad reputation with a school massacre on his hands. Had the situation been reversed and Michelle claimed that Eric was the one who hit her, would you have believed her solely on her accusation and hers alone?

Fact is, anyone could say anything about either of those two boys without another witness to back it and so how do we know it’s true? In the 11K, quite a few Blackjack coworkers knew very little about Dylan other than a friendly, acknowledging ‘hi’; he mostly kept to himself and did his job whereas Eric did the chatting with coworkers. Female Blackjack coworkers described Dylan as shy and reticient, he didn’t want to participate in any social fun and games such as the pizza flour fights. So, I remain on the fence about her accusation …unless, of course, a Blackjack coworker were to come forward in some article, book, reddit interview or Columbine forum to corroborate Michelle’s claim. *shrugs* Until then….

Do you think Dylan would have enjoyed Arizona, or any hot states in general like Florida or California?

I think a change of scenery would’ve been really good for him.  States with a consistent climate like the three you mentioned above would’ve been a good change of pace. The sunshine and warmth may have helped to elevate his funk; the new people and experiences to be had, would’ve re-engaged and rebooted his mind.  I think Dylan was genuinely attracted to Arizona having visited the state to scope out university dorms in March ‘99.  The visit would’ve been a dramatic contrast to the changeable, moody Colorado weather of which he’d literally grown up in.  I do think Dyl may have even spent a bit of time considering and inserting himself within it’s refreshingly exotic local  – with it’s scorching, arid heat, desert and canyons (echoing the ones about his home), cacti literally everywhere and star filled skies at nighttime, it may have seemed like he could almost have romantically inserted himself within the landscape of some of his favorite movies such as “From Dusk Til Dawn’, ‘Desperado’ or ‘Vampires’. That tiny visit to Arizona was just a small taste of what his future could’ve been like had he chosen to live it..

If you look at the FHS article Brooks did about Eric and Dylan, his dad at one point puts in a VHS and shows the interviewer a video of Eric ranting into the camera about the “rage building and building”. Wasn’t that part of the basement tapes, do you know why the Brown family would get a copy of that? It seems odd.

Which article is this?  The Basement Tapes or even just copies of certain segments of it were never distributed to anyone let alone the Browns. The only video of Eric ranting is in his “Hitmen for Hire’ play acting ‘intimidation’ sequence. Rachel Scott’s father managed to sneak audio tape a small segment of the Basement Tapes where E & D rant about a ‘Rachel’ (he wrongly assumed they were referring to his own daughter though).   I’d say Brooks is either confused or

embellishing (yet again) for the interviewer or

both.  Also, consider this: the Browns and the Rohrboughs were all for getting the Basement Tapes released along with any and all important crucial evidence.  If Randy Brown somehow had a piece of those tapes in his possession with Eric ranting about ‘rage building’ you can surely bet he would’ve leaked that a looooong time ago.

Did Dylan support gay marriage?

Honestly, by himself, apart from being in Eric’s company or within the context of the group mentality of his dude friends, Dylan wouldn’t have been fussed about it – either in favor for or against it.  I think he would just say ‘that’s their business’ and leave it at that.  Dylan was raised part of a family culture that was much more liberal than Eric’s so he was more of the ‘live and let live’ mentality. Unless it was something that infringed upon his own rights which would be another story altogether..

I always think Dylan was just a LITTLE pissed off when Eric took off his trenchcoat so soon

You think?   Maybe just a wee bit since NBK rapidly devolved to not quite matching up to his fantasy version of Judgment Day.  Though, once it all started outside the Southwest entrance, both Dylan and Eric tended to drift off in opposite directions in their own separate universes of destructive expression.  Eric carrying out his trigger happy ways upstairs, and remaining there pretty much the entire time while Dylan wandered out near the parking lot and then down the stairs around the side to the cafeteria. Inside the school, Dylan ran down the hallway away from Eric. The two had to catch up to one another to even enter the library. Once inside, they were never really quite sympatico as that ‘two man war against everyone else’.  The reality of the situation is Eric got overheated being trigger happy and so removed the coat out of practicality and Dylan then followed suit in the library with his trench probably because it was too much a burden to wear it with all of his ammo bulging out of his coat – making him ‘look fat’, as he said. It never ended up as being two bad ass deadly assassins in trenchcoats and sunglasses systematically annihilating their entire high school, nope. Instead, it amounted to a teenage rebellious skirmish at best and with no revenge even exacting on anyone in particular. The trenchcoat uniform ultimately ended up becoming a cumbersome annoyance in addition to the bombs failing. Alas, fantasy always tends to top the actual reality of the situation. 😉

Did Dylan or Eric ever mention anything about Anton LaVey or LaVeyan satanism?

No. Eric Dutro was the TCMer that dabbled in a broad, generalized term of ‘the occult’ or ‘devil worship’  – at least he alluded to it to garner himself a ‘touch me not’ reputation in CHS.   However, Eric Harris did have a voodoo doll which was found in his bedroom by cops (lol). Personally, I think the the boys amused themselves sticking pins into it occasionally while thinking of certain people on their Shit Lists and taking swigs of JD..but eh, it was never anything more than that playing at ‘witchy/devil stuff’.  Mind you, none of the above has anything to do with the LaVeyan branch of Satanism. So, the answer here would be no.
